After the civil war, Texas suffered the loss of many experienced lawmen and had become overtaken by murdering bandits. Tired of losing property, family and their livelihoods to these outlaws, a group of young cowboys were summoned to reband the Texas Rangers. Though led by the fearless leader McNelly (Dylan McDermott), the Texas Rangers were out-numbered and out-armed by the bandits. The only advantage the Rangers had was their courage and loyalty.
