Brotherhood Of The Wolf (2002)

Review

Inspired by actual events, this epic thriller retraces the myth of the "Beast of Gevaudan" during the reign of King Louis XV in 1765 France. Inexplicably depraved killings by an unseen 'monster' terrorizes the people of France. As the attacks multiply, the King becomes desperate to end the fear and delegates Gregoire de Fronsac, a renowned scientist, and Mani, a Mohawk Indian, to hunt and destroy the beast. When the King grows dissatisfied with the lack of success, he dispatches his own lieutenant to the hunt. The lieutenant returns hastily, claiming he has killed the beast. The King orders Frosnac and Mani to retire their efforts. Questioning the claim and disobeying the King's orders, they organize one last hunt. Nothing could have prepared them for what they discover.
