This TNT original movie, written by William H. Macy and directed by Steven Schachter, recounts the true story of Bill Porter's existence as a successful door-to-door salesman inflicted with cerebral palsy. He is an independent man afflicted with as much altruism and self-respect internally as he is limited physically. Macy does an outstanding job of portraying what, sadly, many would see as a contradiction - a man who can barely walk and talk succeeding with only the help he absolutely must accept. He can't tie his own shoes, but he can most certainly sell talcum powder and mend his customer's living fences.
Also starring Kyra Sedgwick (Shelly Brady) as Porter's helpmate, Helen Mirren (Mrs. Porter) as his mother, and Kathy Baker (Gladys) as one of his customers.
