When a young married couple inherit a dilapidated old theater in a small English town, they decide to sell it. However, Matt and Jean Spenser quickly realize the offer made by a competing cinema is smaller than the debts they have inherited along with the building. As a result, they come up with a scheme to hold a grand re-opening that they hope will drive up its value.
