The first black gubernatorial candidate is hosting a gala fund-raising event when a dozen masked robbers show up and split with all the cash. Amidst accusations of government and police corruption, racial tensions in the city reach a melting point. Bodies are found. The investigation is led by Lt. Danny Bassett, a sickly cop working towards retirement. He's partnered with Sgt. Jesse Williams, his polar opposite--a black supercop with career advancement on his mind. Jesse begins to suspect that his less-than-ethical partner may have either had a hand in the actual robbery, or is covering up someone who did. And never in the history of Detroit's finest has an investigation led so far from the truth.
