Dr. Daniel Hirsh, a middle-aged Jewish homosexual and Alex Greville, a heterosexual woman trying to escape from a stifling marriage, both fall in love with the same man. The object of their desire is Bob Elkin, a much younger, rather self-absorbed bisexual artist who conducts simultaneous affairs with both Daniel and Alex.
