Captain Courtney (Flynn) suffers no lack of courage in the air, but he believes his commander, Major Brand (Basil Rathbone), is sending the squadron's pilots to die needlessly. Courtney doesn't realize that Brand anguishes over every loss--and only when Courtney is placed in command does he realize the terrible burden of sending his friends to die in battle.
