As a teenager, in 1974, Betty was going to be a winner like her idol, Joni Mitchell, singing her way out of a small, poor and violent town in northern New Brunswick.
At 30, in 1989, Betty is a waitress in a diner and nobody has heard her sing for years. A mentally ill mother, a runaway father and a violent man have all worked at keeping her prisoner of her decaying town. But, with the recent escape of a local serial killer, Betty will have to contend with a series of crimes that will test her courage and the promise of escape.
