Against The Ropes (Dir. Charles S. Dutton) (2004):
Inspired by the true story of the rise of Jackie Kallen, the most successful female boxing promoter in the history of the sport who made her way in the male-orientated world of professional boxing. A story of redemption, the film explores the intense emotional bond that forms between people when they become reliant on each other. Against The Ropes explores the various tensions that exist in the world of American sport with a powerful sensitivity: the concept of a white woman managing a black man in a white man's world presents an engaging insight into the limits men and women are confined to in the arena of contemporary sport.
Necessary Roughness (Dir. Stan Dragoti) (1991):
The Texas State Armadillos are fourth down and nowhere-to-go after a corruption scandal nearly ends the football program. Now upstanding coach Ed Gennero must put together a brand-new team. For the position of quarterback, Gennero recruits Paul Blake, a 34-year-old former high school star whose field of dreams turned out to be the family farm. Blake still has the arm, but can he score with a team that includes a samurai lineman, a butterfingered receiver, and a Samoan strongman with the eyes for the placekicker?
