Sir Laurence Olivier stars as investigator Newhouse of Scotland Yard who is called upon to investigate the disappearance of a four-year-old girl, Bunny Lake. When he can find no evidence that the child even existed, he begins to doubt the sanity of the child's mother, Ann Lake (Carol Lynley).
