Paranoia Agent Vol. 1: Enter Lil' Slugger

Review

Anime innovator Satoshi Kon brings murder, mystery, and mayhem to PARANOIA AGENT. An unknown assailant brutally attacks Tsukiko Sagi. Questioned by the Tokyo Police, Tsukiko's story of a child attacker seems absurd. Nevertheless, the attacks continue. Other victims describe the image of a child with a crooked baseball bat and golden rollerblades. The culprit, now dubbed "Lil' Slugger," hides in abandoned alleys, sneaks up on unsuspecting passersby, and bludgeons them. Is this the work of a child? These mature tales of horrifying crimes are awash in imagery that suggests an altered state of consciousness.
