The beautiful adaptation of Thomas Hardy's classic. Grace Melbury (Emily Woof) returns to her rural hometown in South England when she finishes school. Having been away and having experienced new things and educated people, her hometown now seems too simple. She yearns to travel abroad with Mrs. Charmond (Polly Walker), a rich, local widow, but then meets the young, new Dr. FitzPiers. But waiting in the wings is her childhood love, Giles (Rufus Sewall), who never stopped thinking about Grace.
