In 1974, THE DAVID STEINBERG SHOW entered the Canadian airwaves, with the inimitable comedian welcoming a variety of guests onto his fictional show. Similar to THE LARRY SANDERS SHOW, performers were shown both on and off stage, while recurrent characters such as musician Spider Reichman (John Candy) and security guard James MacGregor (Dave Thomas) added a modicum of continuity to each show. Something of a precursor to SCTV, which many of THE DAVID STEINBERG SHOW's performers went on to star in, this Canadian cult hit is a great way to experience some early performances from future comedy greats; alongside Steinberg, Candy, and Thomas, appearances are made by Martin Short, Joe Flaherty, and Andrea Martin.
