A humble boy's dreams of grandeur are inflamed by his eccentric neighbor's invitation to come over and play with her niece. He falls in love with the niece who has been raised to wreak revenge on all men. He is also led to believe he will be the benefactor of his neighbor. But in helping an escaped convict, the boy comes into contact with startling surprises that transform a shallow boy into a man of character.
