The Lawless Street (1955) (RCE)

Review

Only one man has the courage to wear the star and he walks alone down A LAWLESS STREET. Peace was restored to Medicine Bend after the mines were closed, but a greed-driven scheme to re-open them has turned the town into a powder keg and Randolph Scott quards the fuse as lone U.S. Marshal Calem Ware. After five double-eagle gold coins are discovered on the corpse of a hired gun, the marshal straps on his six-shooter and goes hunting for blood. Best friend Doc Wynn urges him to take off his star and leave town, but nothing can dissuade the relentless lawman from his final gunfight not even the love of a good woman. Angela Lansbury stars as Tally Dickenson, a headlining stage beauty from San Francisco who arrives in town just as the fuse is lit. On the opening night of Medicine Bend's new opera house, an intermission rendezvous reveals her sercet past - as the marshal's wife. She still loves him, but she can't accept the bloody realities of Calem's vocation as he once again braves the bullets to tame the Colorado territory. But after Doc Wynn pronounces Calem dead and the town explodes with lawlessness, Tally finally understands the man she loves. And in the quick draw conclusion of this classic showdown, Calem returns from his dead man ruse to reclaim the violent streets and his long-lost bride.
