Placing legal online wagers in Kentucky is still a month away. But like the Ghostbusters’ theme song suggests, it is now time for Kentuckians to decide who they are going to call when that day comes.

Several of the licensed online sportsbooks in Kentucky are now accepting account registrations in their apps in advance of their launches in the state. Some of them are offering an incentive for new customers in Kentucky to sign up now, too.

Kentucky sports betting apps are available for registrations

On Monday, Aug. 28, multiple online sportsbooks which recently received their licenses from the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission opened their apps up to account signups. To be clear, though, Kentuckians cannot actually place bets on the app until Sept. 28 at the earliest.

The apps now open for registrations are:

  • Bet365
  • DraftKings
  • FanDuel

Other licensed operators may announce registration windows soon. For those apps which are currently open for registrations, though, the process is pretty similar. Bet365, DraftKings, and FanDuel are offering special bonuses for eligible users who sign up now, too.

Register now to take advantage of new offers

FanDuel is starting off its time in Kentucky with a deal worth up to $200 for new users in the state. New customers (if you’ve placed bets with FanDuel before in other states, you’re ineligible here) who register their accounts in Kentucky before FanDuel goes live in the state get $100 bonus in their account on the day that FanDuel actually starts taking bets in Kentucky.

Furthermore, new FanDuel account holders will also get a coupon for a discount of $100 off an NFL Sunday Ticket subscription. DraftKings is matching the value of FanDuel’s offer but in a different way.

Customers who create their DraftKings accounts in Kentucky before DraftKings goes fully live will receive eight $25 bonus bets on launch day. Just like with the FanDuel offer, you must register prior to DraftKings’ full launch in order to receive the bonus. Bet365 is also offering an incentive for early account registrations.

On that app, new users can put themselves in position to celebrate touchdowns in the Sept. 28 Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers game. For each touchdown scored in that contest, users who take advantage of Bet365’s early registration offer will get $10 in bonus bets their accounts, with a cap of $50.

Information on pre-launch offers for other sportsbooks is still forthcoming at this point but expected soon. The biggest thing that all of these deals have in common is that they are free to get in on. That’s just one of the several things that new bettors in Kentucky should note before signing up.

What to know before you register

The beauty of a competitive market for legal sports betting like Kentucky has is that bettors can choose between the various sportsbooks to find the deals they like the best. That’s the first of several things new bettors should note.

There’s no reason why bettors can’t at least register accounts with all licensed Kentucky online sportsbooks. You don’t have to choose one book and stick to it. In fact, having accounts with all of the legal apps is to your advantage as a bettor. Doing so allows you to shop for the best odds and promos on the bets you want to make.

At the same time, that means you will have to complete a separate registration for each app you want to try. They are all individual operators and they do not share your account information with each other. However, they all offer signups free of charge.

Simply download the app(s) you desire and then follow the prompts to sign up. To complete your registration, you will usually have to provide your:

  • Email address (for correspondence and logging in on future visits)
  • Legal name (for tax purposes)
  • Mailing address (for tax purposes)
  • Social Security Number (for tax purposes and to verify your eligibility to place wagers)

Verification of your account normally takes just a few seconds. The sportsbooks must verify your identity to stay in compliance with federal and state laws. These sportsbooks offer apps for both Android and iOS devices.

Once registered and verified, you will be able to skip all of that when the time comes to actually place bets, likely Sept. 28. Even if you are afraid of ghosts despite the admonition of Ray Parker Jr., there’s no reason to fear these registrations. In fact, you could be very happy that you knew who to call.
