Well-known US sportsbook BetMGM and its parent company, MGM Resorts International, have announced that the sportsbook will do in-venue promotion of its GameSense responsible gambling campaign at the stadiums of nine NFL teams this fall.

The nine teams whose stadiums will host the GameSense program promotion are the:

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers (Acrisure Stadium)
  2. Las Vegas Raiders (Allegiant Stadium)
  3. Denver Broncos (Empower Field at Mile High)
  4. Detroit Lions (Ford Field)
  5. Kansas City Chiefs (GHEA Field at Arrowhead Stadium)
  6. Baltimore Ravens (M&T Bank Stadium)
  7. New York Jets (MetLife Stadium)
  8. Tennessee Titans (Nissan Stadium)
  9. Arizona Cardinals (State Farm Stadium)

MGM Resorts SVP Chief Compliance Officer Stephen Martino said in an MGM Resorts International press release:

“The landscape of the gaming industry has evolved dramatically in recent years with the broad legalization of online gambling and sports betting. Collaboration among operators and stakeholders is essential to ensure that responsible gaming remains a top priority.

These efforts are vital to giving guests, customers, employees, and companies the tools and information needed for a safe and enjoyable experience.”

The NFL announcement from BetMGM coincides with the start of the American Gaming Association’s Responsible Gaming Education Month through September.

Host NFL stadiums are located in leading sports betting markets

The new in-stadium initiative from BetMGM leverages its GameSense program. The company launched GameSense in 2017. The program’s messaging focuses on “positive, transparent, and proactive conversations …. about how to gamble responsibly,” BetMGM noted.

Exactly how BetMGM will promote GameSense in NFL stadiums remains a mystery. Based on how the company currently promotes GameSense, we could see commercials on LED screens, signage with GameSense QR codes, or GameSense notifications for anyone in the stadium with the BetMGM sportsbook app.

Though the delivery of the responsible gambling program may be unclear, the markets in which BetMGM chose to launch the in-venue initiative are not.

Five of the six sports betting markets with the most all-time handles are represented by the:

  • Jets (if you count the New Jersey and New York markets)
  • Raiders (Nevada)
  • Steelers (Pennsylvania)
  • Broncos (Colorado)

Eight of the top 11 states for all-time sports betting handles are represented in the initiative as the Lions, Cardinals, and Titan’s home states are ranked #8, #9, and #11, respectively.

“This is an extraordinary moment as we work with our team partners to raise awareness about responsible gaming,” Chief Compliance Officer, BetMGM Chief Compliance Officer Rhea Loney said. “Throughout the season, GameSense will play a pivotal role in reminding football fans who bet, to do so responsibly.”
