BetMGM NY Sportsbook Ready To Get A Piece Of The NFL Wild Card Action

Written By Derek Helling on January 14, 2022

For BetMGM New York, one out of six isn’t bad. BetMGM Sportsbook – the online version – will start taking bets sometime on Monday, Jan. 17. The current question is how far in advance of the sixth and final NFL wild-card game that night the app will launch.

Although it will miss the action on the other five games from the first-ever Super Wild Card Weekend in the NFL, it will beat four other New York sports betting apps to the punch. Like the four that predated it, it offers a great welcome bonus for new users.

The details on the launch of BetMGM New York

Another online sportsbook that New Yorkers might be familiar with from their wagering in New Jersey and/or Pennsylvania will soon be live in the Empire State. Though BetMGM has not specified a time on Monday it will start taking wagers, that’s the date.

Its launch brings the contingent of active online sportsbooks in NY to five. The first four started taking bets on Saturday, Jan 8. They were part of a massive first weekend for legal online sports betting in NY, with millions of New Yorkers taking part.

BetMGM is pretty comparable to all the current options in terms of its app and offerings. Part of that is a bonus for new users. Whether you qualify for that is something that all New Yorkers should look into.

What is the BetMGM NY promo offer and am I eligible?

As with any other gambling activity in NY, you have to be at least 21 years of age to participate. The next point of qualification is whether you have an active account with BetMGM. There’s an upside and downside to that.

If you’ve wagered with BetMGM in NJ or PA (or anywhere else) before, there’s bad news and good news. The bad news is that makes you ineligible for this deal. The good news is that you won’t have to re-register to use the app in NY.

In that case, just sign into the app with your existing credentials. The app will verify your account for use in NY and boom, you can pick up right where you left off. If you’re new to BetMGM, then here are the details on the offer.

BetMGM is offering a risk-free first bet worth up to $1,000 for new customers. Simply get the app, register your account, and make an initial deposit. Then, place your first real-money wager. For the sake of example, let’s say you risk $50 on the Arizona Cardinals +4 at -110 odds against the Los Angeles Rams Monday night.

Then, let’s say the Cardinals perform accordingly in the game. If that happens, you’d get your $95.45 payout (your wager back plus $45.45 in profit). If Arizona disappoints, however, you essentially get a do-over.

BetMGM will give you site credit equal to the value of your first bet or $1,000, whichever is lesser, if you lose your first bet. So in our example, you’d get $50 in site credit because you risked $50.

The questions that savvy NY bettors might be asking are how that compares to introductory offers from BetMGM’s competitors and when the other four licensed NY books will get off the bench. There aren’t really concrete answers to either of those questions right now, unfortunately.

A variety of New York online sportsbooks to choose from

There’s no rule in NY against having accounts with and taking advantage of the welcome offers for all five current NY sports betting apps. In fact, that’s wise to do so. That way, you can shop the sportsbooks for the best odds on the bets you want to make.

Which of these is the best deal is subjective. In case you haven’t tried any of the other four apps, here’s a list of what they’re offering to new customers:

As far as when New Yorkers might have access to all nine licensees, that’s still up in the air. None of the other four apps still pending launch have released any details whatsoever about their plans. Those books are:

  • Bally Bet
  • Kambi
  • PointsBet
  • Resorts World

The goal for the state was to have wagering live in time for Super Bowl LVI, so that’s still a possible target for these four brands. They may launch piecemeal, in groups, or all together. Regardless of when you can expect those brands to offer new customer bonuses as well. Like BetMGM, they want to get a piece of the NFL playoffs action in New York.
