The number of digital versions of physical slot games is growing. In most of these cases, developers are taking existing titles from physical casinos that prove popular and producing digital versions that try to mirror the gameplay of the physical version as closely as possible.
However, there is an emerging category of cross-platform or omnichannel slot titles. These are games developed with both digital and physical gameplay in mind. Caesars has introduced its first such slot game to its patrons in New Jersey.
Caesars invites New Jersey residents to play Rakin’ Bacon Odyssey
PlayAGS is the developer of Rakin’ Bacon Odyssey, which it calls an extension of its Rakin’ Bacon franchise that already exists in brick-and-mortar casinos throughout the United States. While expanding existing franchises is certainly nothing new for slot developers, Odyssey is a first for Caesars in a significant way.
Odyssey is Caesars’ first omnichannel slot game. For New Jersey residents and visitors, that means they can access the game either via the Caesars Palace online casino app in the state or at three Caesars-operated physical casinos. Those properties are:
- Caesars Atlantic City
- Harrah’s Atlantic City
- Tropicana Atlantic City
The slot title boasts 7,776 ways to win with a free spins component. On Monday, Caesars Atlantic City hosted Francine Maric, a content creator also known as Lady Luck HQ, to conduct a ceremonial first pull of the lever of the physical slot game there.
At this time, Caesars has not shared any plans to offer Odyssey at other properties or on Caesars Palace online casino in other states. While cross-platform slot titles are new to Caesars, they aren’t novel to the casino industry in the United States.
As legal real-money online casino play expands and matures, gameplay at physical casinos and online casino apps is becoming more connected.
Synchronizing players’ experience across digital and physical opportunities
Several casino reward programs allow you to earn credits via play on either online casino apps or on brick-and-mortar gaming floors. Increasingly, you can do so by playing the same games if you like. Rakin’ Bacon Odyssey is an example of that.
BetMGM’s exclusive MGM Riches slot title is another instance. The physical slot is available at 15 MGM Resorts properties, while online casino players in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia have access to the digital version on BetMGM Casino.
While these companies offer mirror versions of these slot titles for in-person and online play, such gameplay is not connected. Connected omnichannel play is in development and some of that integration is already visible.
In August 2023, BetMGM rolled out Dual Play Roulette in New Jersey. The physical roulette table at Borgata Atlantic City is equipped with cameras and other technology that allow players on BetMGM Casino or Borgata online casino in New Jersey to take a seat at the game even though they are not physically present.
Such integrations are likely to become more common as time passes. For now, though, New Jerseyans can check out Rakin’ Bacon Odyssey from their phones, three Caesars physical casinos, or both.
