Want To Bet On The Champions League Soccer Game? Here’s How

Updated on:

Anyone inside any of the eight US states with legal sports betting will have the opportunity to bet on two of the world’s biggest soccer games this week.

Soccer isn’t nearly as popular in the US as it is in the rest of the world. So, your knowledge of the game may start and end with a youth league soccer experience back in the sixth grade. However, that’s no reason to pass up the opportunity to bet on two of the most important matches in the sport this year.

The UEFA Champions League semifinals

The UEFA Champions League is the annual club football competition contested by the top teams in Europe. It is now down to just four teams. This week, those teams will play the second and final leg of their home and away semifinals. These games will determine which two teams will play for the Champions League title.

Most legal sportsbooks in the US offer a variety of easy ways anyone can bet on the Champions League. Plus, everything required to make a wise betting decision is widely available. This thanks to the fact the teams played the first leg of their home and away semifinals just last week.

Spanish club FC Barcelona leads 3-0 on aggregate heading into the second leg of its semifinal with the UK’s Liverpool F.C.

Leading on aggregate simply means leading the combined score of two games. Of course, in this case, the second game is still hanging in the balance. In the Champions League, a team must win the two legs of the semifinal combined in order to move on to the finals.

The best player on the planet

Widely considered the best player on the planet, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi scored twice. Plus, the team’s other star Luis Suarez scored once in the first leg of the semifinal last week.

The game was held at the club’s Camp Nou home stadium in Barcelona. The second leg is set for Anfield football stadium in Liverpool on Tuesday, May 7, beginning at 3 p.m. EST.

Dutch club AFC Ajax leads 1-0 on aggregate heading into the second leg of the other semifinal with the UK’s Tottenham Hotspur F.C.

Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek scored the lone goal in the first leg held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London last week. The second leg is set for Ajax’ home stadium Amsterdam ArenA on Wednesday, May 8 beginning at 3 p.m. ET.

Soccer betting is simple

Betting on the games at legal US sportsbooks can be as easy as picking second-leg game winners.

Sportsbooks post moneylines allowing you to pick the winner of each game or either of the two-leg semifinals. Plus, you can bet on the total goals that will be scored in each as well.

Now is also your last chance to pick one of the four teams remaining and lock in a Champions League futures bet. That’s a bet on a team to get through the semifinal and win the final.

Champions League odds

Below is a look at the current Champions League odds according to sports betting software company and services provider Kambi.  Kambi powers various legal sportsbooks across the country. This includes DraftKings Sportsbook and 888 Sport online in New Jersey. Plus, Parx, SugarHouse, and Rivers in Pennsylvania.

Champions League SemifinalsWin the Semifinal second legGo through to FinalWin the Champions League
FC Barcelona+235-1667-210
Liverpool F.C.+100+750+1900
AFC Ajax+114-315+300
Tottenham Hotspur F.C.+225+240+1000

As you can see, Barcelona is a favorite to go to the final and win the entire Champions League. However, no teams is a moneyline odds favorite to win a second-leg game.

That means you won’t have to lay any money to bet on any of the teams to win. Even a $100 bet on AFC Ajax to win at home will pay $114 and your original bet back.

Plus, FC Barcelona is on the road with a three-goal cushion. Therefore, a $100 bet on them to win the second leg game on Tuesday will pay $235 and your original bet back. Even though you would have to lay $1,667 to win $100 and your bet back on Barcelona to go through to the final.

You can also see that with four teams left it doesn’t take a ton of knowledge about soccer to identify good value. In fact, anyone and everyone can bet on the UEFA Champions League games this week.
