The NFL has suspended another player for violating the league’s sports gambling policy.
As announced in a news release, the NFL has indefinitely suspended Denver Broncos defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike for betting on league games during the 2022 season.
“The NFL confirmed today that Eyioma Uwazurike of the Denver Broncos has been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games in the 2022 season. Uwazurike will be eligible to petition for reinstatement no earlier than July 24, 2024.”
10th NFL player to be suspended this offseason
Uwazurike is the 10th player this offseason to be suspended for gambling on games or betting on other sports. He is the seventh player the NFL has suspended indefinitely this offseason. Three more players were suspended for part of the 2023 season for placing bets while on team property.
According to the league’s gambling policy, NFL players and personnel are not allowed to:
- Place bets while in NFL facilities
- Disclose any nonpublic NFL info
- Enter a sportsbook during the NFL season
- Maintain any social, business or personal relationships with sports bettors.
The Denver Broncos said they learned of the news Monday. In the statement, the team says it will fully cooperate with the sports betting investigation:
“Our organization fully cooperated with this investigation and takes matters pertaining to the integrity of the game very seriously.
The Denver Broncos will continue to provide all members of our organization with the necessary education, resources and support to ensure compliance with the NFL’s gambling policy.”
Uwazurike was a fourth-round draft pick from Iowa State in 2022 who played in eight games as a rookie.
