DraftKings‘ all-out assault on the fledgling US sports betting market continued. In fact, the company hired new executives, opened a West Coast office and released plans to head to Las Vegas.
Now, DraftKings has announced the opening of a new office in San Francisco, California, and plans to do the same in Las Vegas, Nevada. Additionally, the company has hired several gaming and sports betting executives to help lead it into the future.
According to a press release, DraftKings has hired:
- Ten-year Las Vegas sportsbook and racebook veteran Jamie Shea as its head of digital sportsbook operations
- Caesars Entertainment sportsbook and racebook veteran Frank Kunovic as its director of retail sportsbook operations
- New York City commercial growth expert Sean Hurley is its head of commercial growth
Making DraftKings stronger
DraftKings’ co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer Matt Kalish said the moves are all designed to make DraftKings stronger:
“The bar for hiring talent at DraftKings is set extremely high, and our success in being first to market in New Jersey with mobile sports betting is the direct result of our skilled team. I am excited to welcome this new group of executives, while expanding the company to San Francisco and Las Vegas. Presence in these international hubs of technology and gaming, respectively, allows us access to a tremendous talent pool and strengthens our position as leaders in this dynamic industry.”
Additionally, the company established a new office in downtown San Francisco that will host its growth marketing executives and their team. The San Francisco office will focus on building out a DraftKings’ marketing organization, expanding its digital brand and driving customer acquisition.
Continued growth in Boston
Earlier, DraftKings announced made Tom Goedde its chief marketing officer and Andy Yang its chief product officer. It now says both marketing executives will be based in Boston. Additionally, the company expects to grow its Boston workforce by 75 percent over the next year.
The company will move into a new 105,000-square-foot state-of-the-art headquarters in Boston in early 2019. It is more than double the size of DraftKings’ current Boston office.
DraftKings’s new advertising campaign
DraftKings also kicked off a national advertising campaign for the DraftKings Sportsbook app on August 13.
The campaign stars NBA Hall of Famer and notorious gambler Charles Barkley. Its series of TV spots and social media videos feature the DraftKings character Dr. Aftkings diagnosing Barkley with various sports-related disorders. He goes on to prescribe DraftKings Sportsbook as the cure.
There is mention of a $200 deposit match bonus. Plus, a Week 1 NFL DFS promotion offering players the chance to win a share of $1 million. However, only by reading the fine print will viewers discover DraftKings Sportsbook is currently only available in New Jersey. A move, much like these others, suggesting DraftKings has its sights set beyond just the Garden State.
