Rewards credit cards have a cult following in the personal finance world. Now, casino credit cards could be next.

Finance tech company Railsr and rewards and slots firm Everi have teamed up to create a rewards credit card for casinos.

“We’re excited to announce the arrangement between Everi and Railsr,” Railsr exec Tiffany Johnson said in a statement. “This embedded credit card experience is an industry-first and will give resorts and casinos a new way to engage with patrons in their daily lives as well as additional revenue to enrich their rewards even further.”

Railsr works with more than 400 casino brands, all of which now have the capability to offer casino-branded credit cards. Everi is an innovator in the mobile wallet space that’s seen record growth in Q2 and Q3 of this year.

How casino credit cards integrating rewards would work

Railsr’s specialty is embedding credit products into a company’s offerings. They focus on providing a frictionless experience for customers. Everi focuses on building loyalty program experiences for casinos. What does the combination of these two services look like?

On the backend, Railsr can make either a plastic credit card or create virtual credit cards. They offer an app that users can open to track their spending and rewards. On Everi’s side, they can integrate the credit-card feature into a casino’s existing loyalty program.

So, if Railsr’s commitment to frictionless finance holds up, users might be able to:

  • Earn sign-up bonuses for spending a certain amount of money by a certain deadline when they first get the card
  • Make purchases with their credit card that will earn rewards points for a casino loyalty program
  • Earn more points per dollar for purchases at the casino’s restaurants and hotel
  • Easily (or automatically) transfer their rewards points to their casino loyalty program
  • Access their credit card account from a casino’s loyalty app
  • Redeem their points for game credits, hotel stays, meals, and experiences

Why a casino rewards credit card matters to casinos

As gaming grows across the country, customer loyalty is a top priority for casinos. If they can keep customers engaged and loyal to the brand, they win.

A casino rewards credit card would play an important role in that goal, Everi SVP of Product and Payment Solutions Victor Newsom said.

“Now resorts casinos can stay closer than ever to their patrons and reward their loyal customers with custom offers inside and outside of the resort while patrons can better engage with their favourite entertainment venues,” Newsom said. “It is a real win-win for the industry.”

Caeasars and MGM already have credit cards

Casino credit cards are not new, technically speaking. Caesars and MGM offer rewards credit cards. Customers can earn points on both cards that they can redeem for various resort and casino experiences. Compared to travel rewards cards, however, the perks and bonuses aren’t as lucrative. At the same time, a customer could conceivably use the cards because they enjoy the Caesars and MGM resort experiences rather than the brands’ casinos.

Why a Railsr/Everi card could be different

Railsr and Everi’s partnership is an interesting one because, unlike Caesars and MGM, it could be a casino-focused product. Imagine you’re playing at a casino that doesn’t have a top-tier resort experience. You need an edge that will keep customers at your property. A rewards credit card that offers perks like free parking, free meals at restaurants, and possibly entries into drawings for attractive prizes could be that edge.
