How Bet On Super Bowl 55 Online From New York / NYC

We all love New York, except for the fact that there’s no way (yet) to legally bet online on the biggest football game of the year in the Big Apple.

Sure, you can head out to one of the many legal sportsbooks in New York to bet on Super Bowl 55 this week, but they aren’t as convenient to many New Yorkers (especially those living in NYC) as legal online sportsbooks in neighboring New Jersey are.

In fact it’s extraordinarily easy to hop across the Hudson and bet online with one of the many legal online sportsbooks in New Jersey. That’s why we’ve put together the following guide to signing up in New York and jumping over the border to New Jersey to bet Super Bowl LV online.

Make Your Super Bowl bets in New Jersey

You need to be inside New Jersey state lines to place Super Bowl bets with NJ online sportsbooks. There’s no other way to do it. Once you’ve signed up for an account and filled it with funds, all you need to do is get to Jersey to bet on the Super Bowl.

In current times, you may want to avoid public transit and take a rideshare service if you don’t have a car. Other than that, there are three primary ways to get from NYC to the Garden State:

Via Bridge

  • George Washington Bridge from Harlem River Drive to Fort Lee, NJ
  • Verrazano-Narrows Bridge from Brooklyn to Staten Island and then Goethals Bridge to Elizabeth/Newark, NJ

Via Tunnel

  • Holland Tunnel via the West Side Highway to Jersey City and Hoboken
  • Lincoln Tunnel from the West Side of NYC to Weehawken, NJ

Via Mass Transit

New Jersey Transit offers trains from Penn Station connecting to New Jersey. The first train stop in New Jersey is Secaucus, but check the schedules as not all NJT trains stop at Secaucus.

The PATH Subway (Port Authority Trans Hudson) goes from the following NYC locations to Newark, Hoboken, Harrison, and Jersey City:

  • 9th St
  • 14th St
  • 23rd St
  • 33rd St
  • Christopher St
  • World Trade Center

Finally, you can get on a bus to NJ from the Port Authority Bus Terminal at 42nd St.

Most popular places in New Jersey to bet Super Bowl online

Based on the Super Bowl last year, we know some 18% of New Jersey betting comes from New York gamblers. According to Bloomberg, some of the New Jersey train stations listed above have become hubs for NYC gamblers.

FanDuel NJ sports bettingHowever, most New Yorkers will bet on the Super Bowl online in New Jersey at places where they can also watch the game. New Jersey sportsbooks are great places to watch the Super Bowl and bet on the game, either at the counter or on your phone with any New Jersey betting app.

The NJ sportsbooks closest to NYC are:

  • FanDuel Sportsbook at the Meadowlands

You can also go down to Atlantic City where there are another eight NJ sportsbooks inside Atlantic City casinos, including:

  • DraftKings at Resorts Atlantic City
  • The Book at Bally’s
  • The Book at Harrah’s
  • The Sportsbook at Golden Nugget
  • Hard Rock Sportsbook

Betting in Pennsylvania from New York

New Jersey sportsbooks aren’t the only online Super Bowl betting option for people in New York State.

Those Upstate and closer to the Pennsylvania state line can play the same game with PA online sportsbooks that NYC residents do with the ones in New Jersey. Online sportsbooks in PA that take Super Bowl bets include:

  • FanDuel Sportsbook PA

Live Super Bowl betting in NY/NJ

Live betting may just be the most exciting way to bet on Super Bowl 55 on game day. It involves betting during the game on many of the same lines available before the game at live odds that change alongside the action. Plus, it may also include betting on quarter and half lines and an increased number of in-game props.

Live betting is available via all New Jersey online sportsbooks. While retail sportsbooks in both states will post live odds as well, online sportsbooks are the most convenient way to play. The odds change so fast, it’s almost impossible to get a live bet down at a retail sportsbook counter before they change again.

In contrast, online sportsbooks are built for the speed of live betting and let you place bets with a click. That makes that same list of New Jersey train stations, bars, and sportsbooks above the best places to live bet the Super Bowl.

Just make sure your New Jersey sportsbook app is downloaded, installed, and ready to go.

How to bet on Super Bowl at New York retail sportsbooks

We think we’ve made a pretty good case for heading to New Jersey to bet on Super Bowl LV online. But for those who simply can’t leave the state, there are retail sportsbooks in NY State taking bets on the game. Here’s a list.

Commercial casinos with sportsbooks:

  • Resorts World Catskills
  • Del Lago Resort and Casino (DraftKings Sportsbook)
  • Tioga Downs (FanDuel Sportsbook)
  • Rivers Schenectady

Tribal casinos with sportsbooks:

When Will Online Sports Betting be Legal in New York?

There’s been plenty of back-and-forth over the years about legalizing online betting in New York, especially since retail sportsbooks opened their doors back in July 2019.

But in January 2021, The New York Daily News reported Gov. Andrew Cuomo is finally willing to bet on NY mobile sports betting. Apparently, he will make it a central part of his policy proposals in his upcoming State of the State address.

In fact, Cuomo said New York has the potential to be the largest sports betting market in the US, and by legalizing online sports betting in the state, he is aiming to keep millions of dollars in tax revenue inside NY.

It’s going to take some time to set it all up. Plus, it appears Gov. Cuomo is in favor of some kind of single-operator monopoly instead of the competitive market that makes NJ sports betting so great.

So, for now, the millions of dollars in tax revenue Gov. Cuomo is talking about will still be leaking out to New Jersey (including Super Bowl LV bets), and your best bet for betting online remains a trip over the state line.
