Massachusetts casino revenue bounced back in March from a down February to post more than $111 million in revenue. When comparing March to Massachusetts’ February 2024 gaming revenue, there was a jump of 10.5% month-on-month which broke the state record for monthly revenue.

March’s total marks the third time in the past nine months that Massachusetts casino revenue topped $100 million, and topped $110 million for the first time in state history, a number that could be considerably higher if lawmakers would legalize Massachusetts online casinos.

Key takeaways:

  • Online casinos are not legal in Massachusetts
  • Online casinos could generate as much as $128 million per month in Massachusetts based on industry averages
  • Total casino revenue in March hit a record $111.1 million

What would online casino gaming look like in Massachusetts?

In the world of online gaming, sports betting took precedence in Massachusetts. Online sports betting went live in March 2023, just two months after retail sports betting debuted.

However, there’s a good chance that legislators will consider online casinos at some point in the next two to three years. The main motivation? Revenue.

When Massachusetts sees traction with online casino legislation we’ll be covering this news on our online casino bill tracker page.

Pennsylvania and New Jersey’s online casino markets have generated tens of millions of dollars. Michigan is another example of a state with online casinos that have benefitted from millions of dollars of iGaming taxes.

Those funds typically help improve community programs, state funds for things like horse racing, and responsible gaming initiatives.

Exactly how much money Massachusetts online casinos could revenue for similar causes is unknown. However, here’s what we could expect from the state based on per-capita (revenue dollars per person) numbers from the six states with revenue reports for online casino gambling:

StateMarch online casino revenuePopulation (according to 2023 Census Bureau data)Per-capita revenue
Pennsylvania$233.1 million13 million$17.93
Michigan$215.2 million10 million$21.52
New Jersey$197.1 million9.3 million$21.19
Connecticut$44.3 million3.6 million$12.31
West Virginia$20.7 million1.8 million$11.50
Delaware$4.6 million1 million$4.6
Average$119.2 million6.5 million$18.34
Massachusetts (projected)$128.4 million7 million$18.34

Based on our projections, Massachusetts would bring in around $128 million, making it the fourth-largest iGaming market in the country.
