Tiger Woods’ odds at the Masters

Traditionally, more money is bet on Tiger Woods to win the Masters than any other golfer. Of course, it makes sense, since Woods is a five-time Masters winner and just captured his fifth green jacket in 2019.

Woods is also just three majors short of Jack Nicklaus’ record 18 wins and seems to raise his game at Augusta. Plus, the odds on Woods to win at the Masters have become more attractive as he’s gotten older.

Woods was able to give it a go in 2022 and drew a phenomenal amount of betting action despite his less-than-100% condition.

Masters betting truth — are lefties worth a bet?

Only four left-handed golfers have ever won one of golf’s four major championships, and three of them are previous Masters winners. Phil Mickelson, Mike Weir, Bubba Watson and Bob Charles are the lefties who have won majors, with Charles the only one not to have won a green jacket.

Mickelson won the Masters in 2004, 2006 and 2010, in addition to the 2005 PGA Championship and 2013 British Open. Weir won the 2003 Masters, and Watson has two Masters, in 2012 and 2014. Charles’ lone major win was the British Open in 1963.

The trick to betting on a lefty to win the Masters is finding one, as fewer than 5% of golfers on the PGA Tour swing from that side.

Mickelson and Watson are still around, but may have passed their prime. Weir still plays in the Masters, as well, but he finished in a tie for 51st in November. Then there’s Brian Harman, who has two PGA Tour wins and posted his best ever finish in a major when he tied for second in the 2017 US Open. His best ever finish at Augusta, however, was a tie for 44th in 2018.

The truth is that it’s possible a lefty can win at the Masters, but it’s still highly unlikely.
