Residents and visitors to Michigan have a new sports betting option. 

DraftKings announced its new retail sportsbook at the Bay Mills Resort & Casino is now open. On Sunday, executives from DraftKings, Bay Mills Resort and the Sault Ste Marie Chamber of Commerce opened the sportsbook with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. 

The Bay Mills Resort & Casino, located on the shores of Lake Superior, is a short 30-minute drive to the Canadian border

Richard LeBlanc, General Manager of Bay Mills Resort and Casino, said, “We’re excited to finally launch the retail DraftKings Sportsbook in our casino.”

“It has been equally gratifying to demonstrate our DraftKings partnership to our guests and community, which will positively impact our region for years to come.”

DraftKings said when designing the state-of-the-art sportsbook, the company kept “sports fans in mind.” 

The sportsbook includes:

  • Real-time score updates
  • Three odds boards
  • Four betting kiosks inside the sportsbook
  • Two additional kiosks on the main casino floor 
  • Cocktail service and a variety of food options

The retail sportsbook is open seven days a week, while its betting kiosks are available 24 hours a day.

“We are thrilled to expand our incredible partnership with the Bay Mills Indian Community and to create an amenity that all guests can enjoy at one of the premier entertainment destinations in Northern Michigan,” said Michael KibortSr Director of Retail Sportsbook Operations at DraftKings. 

“Our new sportsbook at Bay Mills Resort & Casino will offer sports fans an unmatched high-energy, year-round immersive sports betting experience.”

More casino upgrades coming

 Bay Mills will also begin its $65 million casino expansion project in the spring of 2023. When complete, the facility will be among the most expansive of Michigan casinos.

Several amenities will be upgraded including:

  • 134 additional rooms with balconies
  • New deli
  • Spa with massage therapy rooms
  • Pool with a splash pad
  • Hot tubs
  • Nail salon
  • Fitness center
  • Arcade
  • Conference spaces
  • Storefront

DraftKings building on success

Since Michigan sports betting debuted in 2021, DraftKings has been the state’s third-leading operator with $1.72 billion in handle. The company sits behind only FanDuel and BetMGM as the state’s top three online options.

Combined, the three companies have generated over $5.56 billion in sports betting handle.

In September, DraftKings led Michigan in online sports betting handle with $108.2 million.
