As NBA Season Starts, 3 Top New Jersey Online Sportsbook Offers

Written By Bart Shirley on October 16, 2018 - Last Updated on January 13, 2023

The DraftKings Sportsbook is now live in New Jersey. Visit the DraftKings Sportsbook mobile app here for full details.

NBA‘s opening day is upon us. Each of the 30 teams begins its 82-game slate at some point in the next few days, with the first games this evening. In that spirit, there are three sites in New Jersey that are offering promotions for anyone with hoops on the heart.

Daily fantasy sports titan DraftKings surprised everyone by becoming the first online sportsbook in New Jersey. For almost three weeks, it was the only online sportsbook in the Garden State, too.

Being first to market carries distinct advantages, particularly when it comes to name recognition. Perhaps it’s no surprise that DraftKings finds itself perched atop the revenue figures for New Jersey.

$100 Risk-Free NBA Bet

The site doesn’t offer promotions often, but when it does, they’re usually pretty good. The one for tonight’s NBA debut is a doozy. Here’s how it works:

  • Place any singles bet on an NBA game that plays today (Oct. 16) or tomorrow (Oct. 17).
  • DraftKings will credit your account for any losses up to $100.

So, this promotion alone is reason enough to give it a try, or learn more about DraftKings Sportsbook. However, DraftKings is far from the only game in town.

FanDuel has found itself lagging behind its chief rival in the New Jersey sports betting market. Hopefully, some of these NBA betting promotions will help turn things around for the daily fantasy sports innovator.

Local Locks

Sports team love dies hard, and a fan remains a fan through thick and thin. So, FanDuel is offering the Local Locks promotion for Knicks and Nets fans that may need some soothing after that first game.

Here’s how it works:

  • Make a moneyline bet on the Knicks or the Nets before their respective games begin.
  • If the bet happens to lose, FanDuel will refund up to $100 of it.

New Jersey residents don’t always have a ton of good options for NBA allegiances. The Knicks and the Nets have excelled at turning in seasons that fall short of expectations.

The last thing you want after your team loses is to find your wallet lighter, too. FanDuel understands how rude that would be.

3-Point Bonus

The Golden State Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder have some serious sharpshooters on their teams. FanDuel wants you to get in on the action if they start lighting it up from long range.

Here’s how it works:

  • Place a moneyline bet of $25 or more on the Warriors-Thunder game before it starts.
  • For every three-pointer your team makes, FanDuel will credit your account with $5.
  • You’ll have your funds within 72 hours of the game.

For those of you who are financially-inclined, that means that your team must hit a minimum of 5 three-pointers for anyone to break even. That said, with some of the players involved (Russell Westbrook, the Splash Brothers), you never know if someone is going to get hot and start raining them in from long distance.

The King

The biggest offseason story this year has been LeBron James‘s move to the Los Angeles Lakers. King James will don the legendary purple-and-gold for the first time this season.

Needless to say, hopes are pretty high that the four-time MVP will bring a tradition of winning back to the Lakers. So, to commemorate his debut, FanDuel has the following offer for bettors:

  • Place a moneyline wager of $50 or more on the Blazers-Lakers game before it tips off on Oct. 18.
  • Every point that LeBron scores will yield $3 in your FanDuel account.

Fans in LA are hoping that LeBron is bringing a new era of Showtime to the City of Angels. We’ll just have to see how he handles the very brightest of lights.

FOX Bet is the new kid on the block in New Jersey. However, the site from the same people that brought PokerStars to New Jersey know a thing or two about taking care of customers.

LeBron Lifeline

FanDuel isn’t the only site that’s excited about James’s debut in Los Angeles. BetStars knows that the King will be drawing plenty of attention this year.

That said, it would appear that Fox Bet is less optimistic about the star’s effect on the Lakers. Here are the details on the LeBron Lifeline:

  • Place a moneyline bet on any Lakers game this season.
  • If the Lakers lost, but LeBron scores more than 35 points, FanDuel will give you a Free Bet up to $20.
  • Make sure you use the Free Bet within seven days after receiving it.

In other words, this is the bet to make if you think LeBron will get his points, but everyone else will get shut down. Still, if it turns out to be a tough season for the Lakers, this offer might give you a reason to cheer for LeBron.

NBA Overtime Offer

BetStars’s other offer is about as simple as can be. The truth is that an overtime loss is tough on both players and fans.

This nice thing about this bet is that it attaches without any kind of extra effort on your part. Here’s how the NBA Overtime Offer works:

  • Place a moneyline bet on any NBA game.
  • If your team loses in overtime, BetStars will credit your account with up to $20 in a Free Bet.

You can only take advantage of this offer five times in a given week. So, potentially, you could get $100 in Free Bets from BetStars–although that would be a whole lot of lost overtimes.

Honestly, $100 might not be enough to soothe the hurt after that.
