MGM Resorts International is leading the way for inclusive workplaces.

The Las Vegas casino brand earned a spot on the Seramount Inclusion Idex‘s one of 36 companies to earn a “Leading Inclusion Index Company” list, joining 35 other companies among the 175 that applied.

Seramount, a diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) firm, selects applicants for the effectiveness of their DEI and ESG programs.

MGM Resorts Chief People, Inclusion and Sustainability Officer Jyoti Chopra said in a statement:

“We are honored to be recognized for our enduring commitments to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion throughout our company. Our continuous growth in this area furthers our determination to ensure the principles of diversity and inclusion remain a focus and integral part of our people strategy.”

175 companies applied to be a part of the Seramount Inclusion Index this year. Of those 175 organizations, only 36 qualified for the Leading Inclusion Index recognition that MGM received.

To earn the distinction, MGM had to score a 70% or higher on Searmount’s index. To earn that score, the company had to perform well in three areas, according to Seramount:

  1. Best practices in the recruitment, retention, and advancement of people from underrepresented groups
  2. Inclusive corporate culture
  3. Demographic diversity for women and racial/ethnic minorities

MGM was the only resort business on the Leading Inclusion Index Company list. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts scored well enough to earn a spot on the Inclusion Index Organizations list, which required scoring at least a 60%.

This year’s recognition marks the second time MGM earned a Seramount distinction. In 2020, the company performed well enough to get the Inclusion Index Organizations distinction.

Diversity, equality and inclusion increasing in company importance

The companies that participated in this year’s index showed increases across all important metrics compared to the index’s 2021 companies:

  • 88% of companies provided training and development for employee resource group leaders, up from 83%
  • 89% of companies provided anti-racism training, up from 52%
  • 90% of companies set percentage goals for diverse workforce representation, up from 88%
  • 67% provide additional pay for positive DEI results, up 57%
  • 92% of companies have supplier diversity goals, up from 83%
  • The number of Black employees increased by 10%, an 11-percentage-point increase from 2021
  • The number of Hispanic/Latino employees rose six percentage points.

Additionally, 68% of companies in this year’s index increased the size of their DEI budget.

“We are proud to recognize our Inclusion Index companies for their progress and dedication to creating inclusive workplaces where all talent is valued and set up for their own success,” Seramount Managing Director of Diversity Best Practices Katie Oertli Mooney said.
