The Los Angeles Chargers just inked a deal with a daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator, and no, it’s not DraftKings or FanDuel. Rather, it is Monkey Knife Fight.
The North American company is the third-largest DFS platform and gives users a “new style” of legal mobile gaming where customers compete against the house, not “professionals.”
What to know about the Monkey Knife Fight partnership
Financials of the partnership were not announced, however, the deal does make Monkey Knife Fight (MKF) the official DFS partner of the Chargers.
“The Chargers are one of the most exciting franchises in the NFL,” said Danny Tawiah, MFK’s chief marketing officer. “They have a passionate fan base that we’re excited to introduce to the Monkey Knife Fight brand. We are looking forward to building a potent partnership that brings our dynamic brands together.”
Other perks of the deal include:
- Pregame and postgame radio promotion.
- In-stadium branding across the Chargers’ social media platforms.
- The ability for MFK to leverage team marks and insignia in external marketing campaigns.
Here is what Steve Ziff, chief marketing officer of the Chargers, has to say:
“Tapping into Monkey Knife Fight’s energy and momentum was an exciting proposition. It’s always fun to get in on the ground floor of an emerging company that’s hungry to grow. As MKF continues its rise in the DFS space, we’re looking forward to being right there with them.”
Additionally, Chargers’ fans will see specific content for the remainder of the season, including special first-time sign-up bonuses through the company’s website.
DFS sees a resurgence in partnerships
The Chargers are the second major NFL franchise to ink a deal with a DFS company this month. The Indianapolis Colts signed with DFS powerhouse FanDuel on Oct. 10 for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.
The Colts’ partnership only applies to promote DFS. But with most companies shifting to sports betting, it helps FanDuel’s brand recognition.
But it doesn’t stop there.
On Sept. 26, DraftKings became the official DFS partner of the NFL.
The top US professional sports league is not formally aligned with DraftKings Sportsbook, but it gives DraftKings a significant amount of clout should the day come when the NFL wants an official sports betting deal.
The DraftKings + NFL deal includes:
- Exclusive NFL sponsorship in the DFS space.
- Access to NFL branding across gaming and content platforms.
“It was evident we share a common vision around the future of fan engagement,” DraftKings’ CEO Jason Robins said. “We are excited to continue on this unique journey with the NFL as our ‘official daily fantasy partner.'”
DraftKings also has partnerships with the NHL and MLB, while FanDuel is an exclusive partner of the NBA.
