Delaware Online Casinos Down In October, While Sports Gambling Soars

The Delaware Lottery released October‘s gaming results that showed online casinos dropped while sports betting activity set new records.

According to the Delaware Lottery, sports betting activity in the state increased in October while online casino revenue significantly dropped.

The Delaware Lottery supervises three online casinos, each representing one of the state’s three land-based locations:

  • Delaware Park
  • Bally’s Dover
  • Harrington

Delaware online casino gaming the lowest since February 2022

The Delaware Lottery’s online casino report shows the total bets in the sector amounted to $30.54 million in October. The figure is an 18.50% decrease from October 2022 and a 22.27% drop from September this year.

October also marks the lowest monthly total since January and February of 2022, when total bets dropped below $30 million.

While most of the bets came through video lottery games, there were 872 registrations in total, as follows:

  1. Delaware Park: 374 (a drop from September’s 434)
  2. Bally’s Dover: 315 (a monthly decrease from 381)
  3. Harrington: 183 (a slight decline from 187)

Revenue from online casinos in Delaware reached $982,919 in October. The figure shows a 17.99% year-over-year drop and an 11.36% monthly decrease. Of that number:

  • $786,947 came from the video lottery
  • $170,402 came from table games
  • $25,570 came from poker rake and fees

Delaware Park was the top performer, generating $440,568 in revenue from $12.50 million in total bets. Bally’s Dover was next with $292,520 in revenue from a $9.67 million handle.

Harrington was last with $8.34 million in total bets and $249,831 in revenue. But, comparing to September 2023 gaming figures, Harrington was the only location that showed a monthly increase in both handle and revenue.

Delaware sports betting handle shows another monthly increase

While the Delaware online casinos sector declined, sports betting activity in the state was on fire.

Delaware’s October sports betting handle was $10.66 million, a 39.70% increase from September’s $7.63 million. Although the figure shows a 21.28% yearly drop from October 2022, it is still the highest throughout this year.

Meanwhile, sports betting revenue reached $2.62 million in October. Delaware’s October sports betting revenue was the highest this year, showing a 6.27% increase from October 2022 and a staggering 173.07% improvement from September 2023.

According to the Delaware Sports Lottery October report, Delaware Park was the leading operator with the highest betting handle and revenue. Here’s how each of the operators performed throughout last month:

  1. Delaware Park: $2.54 million in betting handle and $368,904 in revenue
  2. Bally’s Dover: $1.20 million in total bets and 172,532 in revenue
  3. Harrington Raceway: $554,958 in betting handle and $79,437 in revenue

Retailers in Delaware generated an additional $2.0 million in revenue from a $6.4 million handle.
