October was one of the strongest months of the year for sports gambling in New Hampshire. However, betting handle and revenue figures still show a year-over-year decrease.
The main reason for the monthly increase across all metrics is the NFL, which is now in its 13th week out of 18. Thanks to the NFL season, US operators saw substantial handle and revenue growth, and we can expect to see the action continue in November, too.
The New Hampshire Lottery regulates gambling in the state and reports monthly on sports betting revenue in three categories: online, retail, and combined.
New Hampshire’s October handle increases more than 16% monthly
According to the lottery, New Hampshire sports betting handle (total bets) for October reached $77.84 million, out of which:
- $65.85 million came from the state’s lone online sportsbook ($6.65 million more than in September)
- $11.99 million came from retail sportsbooks ($4.34 million more than in the previous month)
The betting handle figure shows a 14.79% decrease compared to October last year.
However, New Hampshire’s October handle is a 16.44% improvement from September. It is also the most considerable monthly spend since the state saw a record $103.39 million in total bets in March.
Looking at last year’s lottery report, we can expect figures to stay strong and continue to increase early next year.
October gaming revenue in New Hampshire highest since January
According to the New Hampshire Lottery’s October 2023 revenue report, the state’s three retail and one online sportsbook generated $8.78 million in revenue in October. Of that number:
- $8.45 million came through online sports bets
- $334,433 came from retail sportsbooks
Although the combined revenue figure represents a 3.27% drop from October last year, it is a 42.14% increase from New Hampshire’s September gaming revenue when sportsbooks took home $6.17 million. What’s more, October gaming revenue has been the highest since January 2023:
DraftKings remains the only online sportsbook operator in New Hampshire and has operated in the state since November 2019.
