Sports betting giant BetMGM announced yesterday an official Massachusetts sports betting partnership with the Boston Red Sox. This is the first partnership the company has had with a pro sports team in Massachusetts.
Additionally, it is the first official sports betting partnership the Red Sox have signed. BetMGM CRO Matt Prevost said the company looks forward to its partnership with the storied baseball franchise.
“The Red Sox are one of baseball’s most beloved organizations and we’re thrilled to bring BetMGM to their passionate fans. We look forward to working together to elevate the gameday experience in Boston.”
Deal will boost BetMGM’s Massachusetts sports betting branding
When a sportsbook signs an official partnership deal with a team, it typically means the sportsbook gets opportunities to promote its brand at the team’s games. It also means promotion through the team’s social media channels and advertisements.
According to a press release from BetMGM, its deal with the Red Sox means the following:
- Bet MGM signage at Fenway Park, including on the Green Monster
- A BetMGM suite at the stadium
- Curated VIP fan experiences that include perks like:
- access to batting practice
- appearances from past Red Sox players
- participating in the first pitch
- Co-branded content across BetMGM and the Red Sox’s digital platforms and social media channels
BetMGM noted in a company announcement that, as it expands in the Bay State, it will continue efforts to promote responsible gambling in Massachusetts. The company uses the GameSense platform and is a partner in an American Gaming Association responsible gambling campaign.
“Responsible gaming education remains a key focus for BetMGM as it continues to expand into new markets,” the company said.
Partnership is another step in the relationship between BetMGM and Red Sox
If BetMGM and the Red Sox sound like a familiar pairing, that’s because it is. MGM Resorts is the official resort casino of the team. Also, MGM Springfield hosts Winter Weekend, a pre-spring training event held with the Red Sox that marks the unofficial start of baseball season.
The Red Sox’s executive vice president of partnerships, Troup Parkinson, said the existing relationship between the two companies should produce a profitable partnership. Parkinson said:
“The Boston Red Sox are proud to partner with BetMGM as we prepare to enter a new era of professional sports betting in Massachusetts. Given our strong relationship with MGM Resorts, BetMGM was the clear choice to become the first sports betting partner of the club, and we look forward to them offering sports betting opportunities to our fans in a safe and responsible manner.”
