New York casino in Hudson Valley mall opening soon

The new New York casino in the Hudson Valley is ready to roll.

This week, Genting Americas East announced that Resorts World Hudson Valley will host its grand opening at 10 a.m. on Dec. 28. The new property will bring many benefits to the area, Genting Americas East President Robert DeSalvio said in a statement.

“Resorts World Hudson Valley represents a shared vision that we, along with our partners in Orange County, had to create an entertainment destination that will attract hundreds of thousands of guests and visitors, while providing tremendous benefits to the local, regional and statewide community.”

Construction on the New York casino, which is located in a mall, started in 2021.

Hudson Valley, New York casino will bring jobs and revenue to area

Genting estimates the new casino will create 250 new full-time jobs for the area. Those jobs will pay an average annual wage plus benefits of $72,000.

The pay and benefits package is a good one for the area. The median household income in Newburgh is $47,952, according to July 2021 data from the Census Bureau.

Additionally, the Hudson Valley casino will generate an estimated $65 million in tax revenue every year. That money will go toward supporting New York Schools.

As for the local impact, a 2021 report from the Times Herald-Record noted that Genting will pay Newburgh $3 million a year in host fees, much of which covers the cost of additional policing and other expenses related to the casino.

Genting believes that the casino will also have a positive impact on the other business in the mall. The casino is likely to draw hundreds of thousands of customers.

That increased traffic should provide a boost in commerce for other stores in the mall. And, if the impacts are significant enough, it could attract new tenants to the mall.

The casino will be all-digital and feature a sports betting area

Genting has invested $50 million in its Hudson Valley location. The property will be the third casino it operates in the state.

Also, it will be the second all-digital casino along with Resorts World New York City. Resorts World Hudson Valley will have:

  • More than 1,200 slots
  • Electronic table games spread across 50,000 square feet of gaming space

In addition to slots and table games, the casino will have a Resorts World Bet Sports Bar, where patrons can participate in New York sports betting via the Resorts World sports betting app.

The bar area provides bettors with a 360-degree view of the gaming floor.

Resorts World continues its growth in NY

In total, Genting has invested more than $1 billion in its three New York properties. Its Catskills location is its flagship location.

The Catskills casino has more than 100,000 square feet of gaming space, 2,150 slot machines, and more than 150 live table games. The property includes 10 bars and restaurants, as well as a 332-room all-suite hotel.

To date, Genting’s Resorts World properties in New York have generated more than $3.6 billion in tax revenue. With the addition of a third property, it’s possible that the company could eclipse the $5 billion mark in 2023.
