ClutchBet, an Australia-based sportsbook, has plans to launch in the US, with Colorado, Iowa, Virginia, Tennessee and Maryland among the likely states for the sportsbook to debut in first.

On this page, we’ll review what a ClutchBet sportsbook might have to offer sports bettors in the US, including promotions for new and existing users, the bets you’ll be able to place, banking options and customer service, and how ClutchBet matches up against some of the competition.

We also expect ClutchBet to offer a welcome bonus to new customers in states where it launches, so we’ll go over that, as well.

Reasons to choose ClutchBet Sportsbook

  • Proven track record outside the US.
  • Safe and secure betting platforms.
  • Quality odds and variety of betting options.

ClutchBet Sportsbook sign-up bonus

ClutchBet has not revealed exactly what its welcome offer will be in the US, but based on what other legal online sportsbooks have to offer, it could be a risk-free bet or a deposit bonus of some sort.

How does the ClutchBet sign-up bonus work?

ClutchBet has a few options for what it could offer new customers. Here are a couple of the most popular welcome bonuses at existing US sportsbooks and what they may look like at ClutchBet:

  • Risk-free first bet: Note that risk-free bets are hardly ever 100% risk-free. If they were, you simply would get cashback if you lost your first bet. Instead, you often receive a refund as either site credit or a free bet. Something like site credit or similar tends to bet more like cash, often making it the better option. The downside is that bonus funds like this may have a playthrough requirement. In our opinion, anything higher than a 5x playthrough rate is too steep. Generally, with free bets you have to bet them just once. However, you also do not receive the free bet stake back if your wager wins.
  • Opening deposit bonus: Deposit matching bonuses can be very tempting, as well. On the surface, what’s not to like about a “Deposit $500, get a $500 match” bonus? Well, depending on a sportsbook’s terms, there might be a lot not to like. With deposit bonuses, you usually receive bonus cash and it almost always comes with a playthrough requirement. For instance, using our deposit $500, get $500 example, you might need to bet anywhere from $500 to $12,500 to unlock the bonus funds for withdrawal. In addition, you’ll usually have a time limit to meet the requirements. The shortest ones are usually one or two weeks.

How to sign up for a ClutchBet sports betting account

Signing up for a ClutchBet Sportsbook account is relatively easy, not any more complicated than signing up for a social media account. To register with ClutchBet, head to the sportsbook site and select “Sign Up.” Once the registration form opens, you will need to enter some personal info:

  • Name (first and last)
  • Email address
  • Home address
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Last four digits of your Social Security number

This information is a requirement at any legal sportsbook you sign up with. You also must agree to ClutchBet’s terms and conditions and confirm that you are 21 or older in all states where that’s the minimum betting age. In a few states, the minimum age to bet on sports is 18.

While you do not have to be in a state where ClutchBet is legal to sign up, you will need to be in such a state to place any bets at the online sportsbook.

Which states is ClutchBet Sportsbook legal in?

ClutchBet is potentially targeting up to six states for its US launch:

  • Arizona: ClutchBet reached an agreement with BlueWater Resort & Casino for market access rights in the Grand Canyon State. However, when the Arizona Department of Gaming awarded sports betting licenses, BlueWater and thus ClutchBet did not receive one, meaning that if ClutchBet wants to launch in Arizona, it will need to find another path to a license.
  • Colorado: The Centennial State was one of the five states ClutchBet originally identified for its planned debut. The Colorado Division of Gaming is in charge of sports betting in CO and is the group ClutchBet will need to obtain a license from.
  • Iowa: The Hawkeye State could be the first state in which ClutchBet launches thanks to an agreement with Dubuque Racing Association, which runs Q Casino. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission oversees Iowa sports betting.
  • Maryland: The state’s voters approved a sports betting referendum in November 2020. ClutchBet will need to gain market access and receive a sports betting license from the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission.
  • Tennessee: Online-only TN sports betting debuted in November 2020. The Tennessee Education Lottery oversees sports betting in the state.
  • Virginia: While Iowa is most likely to be the first state where ClutchBet opens, Virginia was hoping to be a close second. However, ClutchBet got turned down by the Virginia Lottery, who said at this point in time it didn’t have enough experience operating within the US.

How to download the ClutchBet sports betting app

The ClutchBet Sportsbook app is available for Android and iOS. To download it, head to the ClutchBet website via a mobile browser and click the appropriate link for your device. From there, you’ll follow any additional prompts to download and install the app.

Navigating the ClutchBet website

While the ClutchBet app does allow for easier betting via mobile device, you don’t actually need it. If you want, you can do all your betting, depositing and withdrawing using the ClutchBet website. Personally, we prefer the app on a mobile device. But on a laptop or desktop computer, the website definitely is your friend. Here are some of the key areas to familiarize yourself with when it comes to the ClutchBet website.

  • Your account: The account page is where you’ll go whenever you’re looking to check or change any of your personal information. This could be to change contact info, etc. Your account also allows you to check your betting and deposit history as well as access the cashier to deposit or withdraw funds. Lastly, it is where you’ll go whenever you want to log out of your account.
  • Promotions page: The promotions page is arguably the most important non-betting page you’ll want to check daily. That’s because with new promotions dropping at any time, you don’t miss out on anything. Selecting promotions lets you read the terms and conditions for each one. While this isn’t what we consider riveting reading, it’s important to understand how each promo works.
  • Bet slip: The ClutchBet bet slip is fairly user-friendly. Simply select a wager to add it to your slip. At the top of the slip you’ll see what you’re betting on, then the odds and your total wager. When you fill in how much you’re betting, the payout line will update with your potential winnings. Just be aware that the payout includes the amount you bet, as well. If you choose more than one bet, options for placing parlays or round robins will appear below the single bets at the top of your bet slip.
  • Sports options: All the sports you can wager on at ClutchBet appear along the left side of the site. The most popular leagues and games to wager on will be at the top, while below you should see an A-Z listing of all the options.
  • Customer support: With ClutchBet yet to debut in the US, there is not a US-based email address available. As it is, you still can email contact@ClutchBet.com.au if you have any questions or concerns. You also can call 1-800-797-644. US emails and phone numbers should be up and running shortly.

Layout differences on the ClutchBet app

Overall the ClutchBet app is very similar to the website. The only real differences are where a few things are located, primarily to accommodate the smaller screens of mobile devices. For instance, the ClutchBet website has information along both the right and left sides of the screen. Meanwhile, on the app, the same information will appear either along the top or bottom of the page.

This is traditionally how most online sportsbooks have done things. And it’s also similar to how websites and apps function outside the sports betting world. If you’ve ever used ESPN.com and the ESPN app, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.

Because the differences between the app and website are so minimal, you should have little to no issue transitioning between the two.

Live betting at ClutchBet Sportsbook

With live betting, you can wager on games that are already underway. Live betting can be a fun way to bet because it allows you to bet in real-time while watching the game in person, at home or at a sports bar, for example.

Hedging bets can be one of the most useful ways to participate in live betting. Hedging is when you take the opposite side of a bet you placed to try to get some winnings. Take this example:

Before the game starts, you bet on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to beat the Kansas City Chiefs straight up. At halftime, the Bucs are ahead 17-10. You’re feeling pretty good about your bet, but you see ClutchBet has the Chiefs listed at +4.5, so you decide to make a spread bet on them.

Now if Tampa Bay holds on to win, you win your original bet. However, if the Chiefs rally for the win, your live bet will end up paying out. And if everything comes together perfectly and the Bucs win by four points or fewer, you’ll end up winning both your pregame and live bet.

What sports are available at ClutchBet?

ClutchBet sportsbook offers an array of sports to bet on. Keep in mind, though, that each state sets its own rules for what you can and cannot bet on. Some will let you bet on in-state college teams, but others will not.

You can for sure bet on all the top leagues and sports at ClutchBet, including the NFL, the NBA, college football, college basketball, MLB, the NHL, the PGA Tour, UFC, the WNBA, MLS and NASCAR.

And just because a sport isn’t taking place in North America does not mean you can’t bet on it at ClutchBet. In fact, you’ll find a variety of international betting options at the Australia-based sportsbook. This will likely include international soccer leagues, Formula One, EuroLeague basketball and more.

How to bet at the ClutchBet online sportsbook

Here is a roundup of all the different types of wagers you can place at ClutchBet:

  • Moneyline: This is a bet on which team will win a game. The underdog will have positive odds, and the favorite will be negative. As for the numbers themselves, they represent how much you stand to win. A moneyline of -450 means a bet of $450 would win a profit of $100 if successful. A moneyline of +450 means you could win $450 on a $100 bet.
  • Spreads: For a point spread bet, a game’s final margin of victory is what matters. ClutchBet will set the spread for a game, for example, 7.5. The favored team will be listed at -7.5, and the underdog will be at +7.5. This means that the favorite needs to win by more than 7.5 for bets on that side to win. The underdog, meanwhile, needs to lose by less than 7.5 or win by any amount.
  • Over/unders: These bets are often listed as “Totals” and they allow you to wager on the total combined score of a game. As the name implies, you can bet on whether the actual total score will be over or under the number that the sportsbook lists.
  • Props: Props are basically side wagers you make on games. Imagine saying to your friend “I think Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to get a triple-double tonight.” Well, thanks to prop bets you can make a wager on it. At ClutchBet Sportsbook you just have to click on a game to see all the prop betting options for that contest.
  • Parlays: You join two or more bets together to create a parlay. Your parlay only wins if each bet you make is correct. So, if you start building parlays of 10-plus legs, your potential profits would skyrocket. Actually winning a 10-leg parlay, however, is very, very difficult.
  • Round robins: Round robins are essentially smaller parlay groupings. This allows you to still win some money if you don’t quite get all of your picks right.
  • Futures: Bet on more distant, season-ending events. Betting on which team will win the World Series before the baseball season even starts is an example of a futures bet. Betting on who will win the NHL’s President’s Trophy (for best regular-season record) is another example of a futures bet. You also can place futures bets on players. This might be for a player to win the MVP or some other prominent award.

Wrapping up: ClutchBet Sportsbook

While there still are a handful of unanswered questions regarding ClutchBet Sportsbook, we are excited about its arrival in the US. Many states where sports betting is legal already have a robust betting market, but the more competition there is among sportsbooks means better odds and better promotions.

ClutchBet FAQ

Where is ClutchBet Sportsbook available?

ClutchBet has identified Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Iowa and Colorado as potential places to launch. Once that happens, you will be able to bet using the ClutchBet Sportsbook app or website as long as you’re within a state where ClutchBet is legal.

Can I bet on NCAA sports at ClutchBet?

Yes, wagering on college sports is legal in all the states where ClutchBet is aiming to receive a license. However, in Virginia, you are not allowed to bet on NCAA games involving teams from within the state. And other states may have rules about college prop bets.

Why should I choose ClutchBet over an offshore site?

Offshore betting sites are not licensed and do not fall under US law or the laws of any individual state. This means that when you deposit money on an offshore site, there is no guarantee you’ll get it back. That is not the case with a reputable sportsbook like ClutchBet that will receive a license for any state where it plans to operate in the US.

Do I have to pay taxes if I win at ClutchBet?

Yes, the US taxes gambling winnings. The good news, though, is that you can use your gambling losses to help offset any wins you have. We recommend consulting with a tax professional to check on your specific situation.

What is the minimum age to wager at ClutchBet Sportsbook?

While individual states determine their own sports betting ages, it typically is 21. When you register at ClutchBet, the sportsbook will verify that you are of legal betting age in that state before allowing you to create an account.
