Belterra history and current owners

Indiana’s Switzerland County legalized riverboat gambling in November 1993. However, it wasn’t until 1998 that Hollywood Park got its license and initiated the construction of Belterra Casino Resort.

The complex was completed in August 2000, but the casino didn’t open until Oct. 27. The first attempt to open the venue was unsuccessful because the riverboat that was supposed to house the casino sank on its way to the site.

Hollywood Park, now renamed Pinnacle Entertainment, sold the property to Gaming and Leisure Properties in April 2016. The company then leased the venue back to Pinnacle Entertainment. However, Boyd Gaming took over the casino’s operations in October 2018.
