Online casinos generating bulk of online gambling revenue in Michigan
Recently, the MGCB has increased enforcement efforts against offshore operators, issuing cease-and-desist orders to hundreds of unlicensed sites offering gambling services to Michigan residents.
Michigan’s online gambling revenue surged to $2.9 billion in 2024, with online casinos accounting for $2.4 billion and sports betting generating $460 million. This boom contributed $466.1 million in taxes and regulatory fees to the state budget, signaling both a lucrative market and growing regulatory responsibility.
The outcomes of the meeting will be pivotal in shaping Michigan’s gambling regulations amid ongoing market expansion. Industry watchers should expect potential updates to licensing and compliance requirements, alongside increased scrutiny of online operators to safeguard consumer interests.
