Sometimes an older game can surprise you, and other times, it reminds you how far the industry has come. The Great Pigsby by Relax Gaming is one of those slots that immediately catches your eye with charm and polish. It looks like a celebration of glitz, gold, and Gatsby-style glamour, complete with jazz tunes and a partying pig at the center of it all. On the surface, it appears to be a game that should deliver nonstop entertainment. But after spending some time with it, I found that all the shine might just be from the bacon grease.

My video review of The Great Pigsby

My basic experience playing The Great Pigsby

When I sat down to play The Great Pigsby, I expected something fun, classy, and full of potential. Relax Gaming usually delivers solid slots with a good mix of entertainment and payout potential, but this one fell short for me.

I played for around eight minutes on Microsoft Edge, wagering a total of 213 SC. Things started off fine with a few small wins, but the balance fell quickly and never recovered. Before I knew it, I was at zero. For a slot that looks so full of personality, it was surprising how quiet the experience felt.

During the session, I never triggered any kind of bonus round and actually thought there wasn’t one. Later, I realized there are free spins and additional features that just never showed up. Ironically, when I tried it later on GC, I got to see more of what the game can do. It would have been nice to have that kind of luck when it counted.

The only feature I triggered was when the piggy bank finally popped, awarding a wild respin. It took nearly my whole balance to get there, and by that point, I wasn’t expecting much. The feature turned two reels wild, gave me a quick payout, and that was that. Visually, it looked great. In practice, it felt underwhelming.

The Great Pigsby is one of those games where you can tell there’s potential under the surface, but it never really comes through during the session.

The Great Pigsby key takeaways

The first thing that grabs your attention in The Great Pigsby is the visual presentation. The golden mansion backdrop, the silhouettes of pigs dancing in the windows, and the party lights make it feel like something special is happening behind the reels. It’s a clever setup that gives the game personality right from the start.

A golden piggy bank sits at the top of the screen, growing fuller as wilds appear. It is a fun mechanic that adds some anticipation because you know something will eventually happen when it bursts. The idea works in theory, but the problem is how long it takes to trigger and how small the reward feels afterward.

Visually, this is a great-looking game. The golden tones, diamond-encrusted lettering, and lavish theme perfectly match the high-class party vibe. The presentation makes a strong first impression, even if the gameplay struggles to keep up.

The Great Pigsby sensory experience

The visuals in The Great Pigsby are easily its strongest element. The golden mansion, the glowing windows, and the little animations all bring the scene to life. The color palette of deep gold and rich purples gives it a polished look, and the reels spin smoothly without any clutter.

The soundtrack is just as polished. It’s a jazzy, upbeat tune that captures that roaring twenties feel. The soft clinking of coins, the classy horn stingers, and the faint sound of laughter all make it feel like you’re part of an elegant party. It does get a bit repetitive after a while, but it fits the mood so well that it’s hard to complain.

When big wins land, the screen fills with coin showers and diamond-styled win numbers. It looks great and really sells the luxurious theme. The piggy bank shaking as it fills adds some tension, but it can also get a little distracting when you’re watching it for several minutes without anything happening.

Relax Gaming nailed the presentation here. The Great Pigsby looks and sounds fantastic. If the gameplay matched the atmosphere, it would be an easy recommendation.

The Great Pigsby gameplay highlights and lowlights

Gameplay in The Great Pigsby is simple and easy to follow, but not very exciting. There are long stretches of quiet spins where not much happens, and the features are rare enough that you spend most of your time waiting for something meaningful.

The piggy bank feature is the main focus. Each wild you collect fills it up a little more until it finally bursts. It took me nearly my entire session to get there, and when it did, I triggered the wild respin feature. It looked great visually, but it ended up being a small payout that didn’t make much difference to my balance.

That was the only feature I experienced during my session. The base game had a few scattered wins but nothing to get excited about. I imagine the free spins are where the real potential sits, but reaching them feels unlikely.

The pacing overall is very slow. The pig mechanic adds anticipation, but when it fails to deliver, it leaves you wondering if there is anything worth chasing.

Bonus features

Feature / BonusDescriptionImpact on Gameplay
🐷 Piggy Bank Wild CollectionAny wilds that land on the reels expand to cover the reel and are collected into the piggy bank above. Each collected wild gives a chance to trigger the Free Spins or Wild Reels Re-Spin feature.Builds anticipation with every wild collected, but it can take a long time before anything actually happens.
🐷 Wild Re-SpinTriggered randomly from the piggy bank collection. Awards one re-spin where 2–4 reels are turned wild before the spin begins. Reel 1 cannot turn wild.Creates a chance for solid wins when multiple wild reels hit together, but it usually ends quickly with smaller payouts.
🐷 Free SpinsAwards 10 spins where, every second spin, one low-value symbol is replaced by a mystery symbol that can turn into mid or high-value symbols. By the end, only premium symbols remain.Builds potential as the round goes on, with higher-value symbols appearing in later spins for bigger wins.
🐷 Great Pigsby SpinA random feature that can trigger at any time. The reels fill with the top-paying Pigsby symbols before the spin resolves.Adds surprise moments that can produce strong hits out of nowhere, though it’s fairly rare.

Volatility and overall feel

The Great Pigsby is labeled as a medium volatility slot, but it feels closer to medium-high. The game doesn’t feel risky while you’re spinning, yet the rewards don’t come easily. There are small wins scattered throughout that keep you hoping for more, but once the balance drops, it drops fast.

It’s one of those slots that teases potential but rarely shows it. The features seem well-designed, but you need a long session or a lot of patience to actually see them. The piggy mechanic adds a layer of suspense, but it’s not enough to save the pacing when the bonuses are this rare.

The volatility feels tuned to tempt you with a promise while rarely delivering on it.

The good and the bad of The Great Pigsby

Every slot has its strengths and weaknesses. For me, here are the peaks and pits of The Great Pigsby.

What I liked

  • 🥂 Charming mansion backdrop with dancing silhouettes in the windows
  • 🥂 Classy golden visuals and elegant animation style
  • 🥂 Fun jazz soundtrack that matches the theme perfectly
  • 🥂 Smooth performance and crisp effects
  • 🥂 Piggy bank mechanic that adds tension and anticipation
  • 🥂 Random Pigsby spins that can surprise you with big wins

What I didn’t like

  • 🛑 Piggy bank feature takes far too long to trigger
  • 🛑 The payout rarely matches the buildup
  • 🛑 Free spins are difficult to reach naturally
  • 🛑 Wild respins look exciting but usually disappoint
  • 🛑 Too many dead spins between any meaningful action
  • 🛑 Feels like the potential is locked behind features you might never see

Final thoughts on The Great Pigsby

There is no denying that The Great Pigsby is one of the better-looking free slots Relax Gaming has made. The theme is fun, the atmosphere is great, and the visuals are top-tier for its age. It looks and sounds like a million-dollar game. The problem is that it just doesn’t play like one.

The piggy feature takes too long to trigger and gives very little when it finally does. The base game feels slow and unexciting, and the free spins seem to hide behind a wall of bad luck. The presentation is doing all the heavy lifting here, while the gameplay struggles to keep up.

Great Pigsby big win screen

For players who enjoy elegant designs, slower pacing, and that classic Relax polish, this might still be worth trying. But for those looking for fast action and consistent excitement, there are better options out there.

As for my own session, it felt a bit like being invited to Gatsby’s mansion only to realize the champagne’s gone flat and the guests already left. The music was still playing, the lights were still bright, but the party was over before it even began.
