The start of the NFL season was kind to New Hampshire sportsbooks.
The New Hampshire Lottery’s latest revenue report reveals that the state’s three retail and one online sportsbook took home $6.17 million in September, up 84.8% over August.
However, sportsbook revenue was down around $1.18 million compared to September 2022.
A look at what drove New Hampshire sports betting’s September gains
New Hampshire gaming regulators report sports gambling revenue in three categories: online, retail, and combined.
This past month, online books saw their revenue jump from around $3 million to just over $5.5 million. Retail sportsbook revenue lept from around $270,000 to just under $610,000.
Overall, revenue surged past $6.1 million after clearing $3.3 million in August 2023 gaming revenue. The cause of the jump across all metrics? The NFL season.
Sportsbooks across the nation saw substantial handle and revenue growth thanks to the National Football League.

Analyzing September sports betting revenue in New Hampshire
While a month-on-month comparison is promising for New Hampshire, yearly comparisons are the exact opposite.
Over the past year, online sports betting revenue has topped $5.5 million seven times, so September’s revenue wasn’t groundbreaking. On the retail side, revenue figures have surpassed $600,000 five times over the past 12 months.
Like online betting’s revenue numbers, retail’s weren’t awe-inspiring. Furthermore, total sports betting revenue was down 16.0% compared to September 2022, and online revenue dropped 28.0% versus one year ago.
Looking ahead to next month, we should see revenue near $7 million and handle exceed $62 million.
