A website operated by USA Today, 10Best.com, has released a list of the 10 Best Casino Hotels in the United States.

While Mohegan Sun was voted No. 1 in that category, it’s notable that, for the first time ever, no Vegas casinos were listed.

However, it turns out that readers didn’t really have much of a choice as Vegas resorts were not included in the judges’ initial selection of 20 places to choose from.

Voting took place through 10Best.com, which averages 5 million visitors per month. USA Today‘s 10 Best allows multiple voting, and readers can cast a single vote in each category daily.

10 Best Casino Hotels list leaves out Las Vegas properties

Las Vegas casinos are synonymous with casinos, as the city is still widely regarded as the gambling capital of the US. Therefore it’s hard to believe the list had no representation from Las Vegas. Readers probably expected to find big names like The Venetian, Bellagio, Caesars Palace, and MGM Grand, but let’s again keep in mind that 10Best.com didn’t even include any Vegas venues in its beginning selection list. Therefore, no readers were able to vote for them.

Casinos in other states filled the winner’s list. For the fifth consecutive year, Mohegan Sun scored first place in the Best Casino Hotel category, with the prestigious awards going to casinos in Connecticut (2), New Jersey (2), California (2) and Arizona (2), Florida (1) and Mississippi (1).

Without further ado, here’s an entire scope of the casino resort finalists:

  1. Mohegan Sun – Uncasville, Connecticut
  2. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City – Atlantic City, New Jersey
  3. Ocean Casino Resort – Atlantic City, New Jersey
  4. Pechanga Resort Casino – Temecula, California
  5. Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel – Highland, California
  6. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino – Hollywood, Florida
  7. IP Casino Resort Spa – Biloxi, Mississippi
  8. Casino Del Sol – Tucson, Arizona
  9. Foxwoods Resort Casino – Mashantucket, Connecticut
  10. Talking Stick Resort – Scottsdale, Arizona

In previous years, several Vegas casinos were ranked among the top 10, such as The Venetian & Palazzo, Wynn Las Vegas, Caesars Palace and Bellagio.

Best Casino Outside of Las Vegas category

The Best Casino Outside of Las Vegas category likely exists because Las Vegas is the capital of casino gambling – and perhaps not to make the list overshadowed by Vegas casinos.

However, the final results of this category were not so different than the previous category of Best Casino Hotels. In fact, this year’s selection for both categories features a quite similar choice with six venues in common, only with different rankings.

For the fourth year in a row, the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket was voted the best casino outside of Las Vegas according to the Readers’ Choice Awards from USA Today.

While Mohegan Sun scored number five on that list, among other top 10 voted candidates were Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City and Live! Casino Hotel Philadelphia in Philadelphia.
