With the launch of Missouri sports betting just three months away, the state is approaching one of its most important deadlines. Friday marks the final day that sports betting operators and suppliers can submit applications for licenses if they want to participate in the state’s Dec. 1 launch of mobile and in-person wagering.
Who’s competing for a spot in Missouri’s sports betting market?
The Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) opened its application window earlier this year. The first application deadline was July 15, the date by which operators had to apply for two gaming licenses that did not require a partnership — known as “untethered” licenses — with an existing Missouri entity such as a casino or professional sports team.
DraftKings, FanDuel, and Circa Sports applied for untethered licenses. As expected, DraftKings earned one license. In a surprise move, however, the MGC awarded the second license to underdog Circa Sports rather than industry giant FanDuel.
The second application deadline is Sept. 12. All companies that want to participate in the Dec. 1 launch must apply by that date. Commission spokesperson Elizabeth Hoffman confirmed that 25 companies have applied for licenses so far:

Countdown to launch: Missouri sports betting timeline
Friday is the critical day for operators and suppliers, and more companies are expected to submit applications ahead of the deadline. Missouri is projected to be a relatively large market, offering significant revenue potential for licensed companies.
For example, based on national averages, the market could have generated more than $170 million in revenue during the first three months of the 2024 NFL season — putting Missouri ahead of states such as Colorado and Indiana.
Other important dates between now and Dec. 1 include:
- Oct. 22: The commission will award temporary licenses, allowing operators to establish partnerships with third-party payment providers.
- Nov. 17: Mobile sports wagering operators with temporary licenses may begin accepting customer deposits.
Based on this timeline, eligible online sportsbooks are expected to roll out a wave of new customer promotions in the weeks following Oct. 22.
