The Ohio Casino Control Commission recently cracked down on illegal gaming in Lake County, seizing approximately 85 unlicensed machines across three local businesses.
Regulators stated that the enforcement action in northeast Ohio highlights ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with Ohio’s gaming laws, which are crucial for maintaining a regulated market, including Ohio sports betting and retail casinos.
Ohio online casinos remain illegal, but that could change, especially since it is legal in two states that border Ohio: Michigan online casinos and Pennsylvania online casinos.
Complaints spurred raid
The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), in collaboration with the Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department, executed search warrants at Fun Hub, Skillz Zone, and Players Club.

The investigation stemmed from community complaints about the businesses operating beyond legal guidelines.
More than 170 locations have been targeted
The crackdown is significant for US bettors, as it highlights the proactive measures taken by regulatory bodies to eliminate illegal gambling, ensuring a safe environment for consumers.
The OCCC has made considerable progress in combating illegal gaming statewide, having conducted operations at over 170 locations and disabling more than 7,700 illegal machines to date.
Looking ahead, the OCCC aims to continue collaborating with local authorities to enforce Ohio’s gaming regulations, which may involve increasing inspections and investigations into unlicensed establishments.
