White Hat Studios is going old-school to capture new capture.

The Malta-based, award-winning gaming company launched “The Goonies,” a five-reel, 20-line game for online casino platforms themed after the mega-popular 1980s movie by the same name. CCO Andy Whitworth said in a statement that the company is thrilled to debut the new title.

“We’re ecstatic to further enhance our USP of launching the biggest brands in the US market by releasing these games based on incredibly recognizable and beloved brands from Warner Bros. Discovery,” Whitworth said. “You would need to look long and hard before finding a player that doesn’t have fond memories of classic movies like Goonies.”

The game launched in the US earlier this month and will be available in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. White Hat developed the machine along with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment.

Movie-themed bonuses highlight new Goonies slot

The game features multiple bonuses and nuances based on popular characters from the movie. For example, characters in the movie use a skeleton key to unlock One-Eyed Willy’s treasure. That skeleton key is located on “The Goonies” slot screen. At random times, it turns green and activates one of six modifiers in the game.

One of those modifiers is Chunk’s Truffle Shuffle, named after the movie character Chunk’s signature dance that still lives on in GIFs and memes. If a modifier is activated, players have a chance at extra wilds or add extra chances to win.

The game’s jackpot is aptly named “One Eyed Willy’s Treasure.” Players have a chance to win the big prize by working through bonus rounds. The payoff? Up to 1,000 times the total bet.

Whitworth said White Hat hopes that popular brands like “The Goonies” will help the company capture new customers.

“The Goonies” is the latest Hollywood title in White Hat’s lineup

White Hat Studios is no stranger to leveraging cult classics for slot brands. In November, the company released “Beavis and Butthead,” the 1990s hit show from MTV that released a new movie and new season in 2022. White Hat capitalizing on the show’s resurgence is further evidence of its efforts to elevate itself in the U.S. market.

This week, the company launched two additional Hollywood titles; “Deal or No Deal: What’s in the Case?” and “Ted Jackpot Royale.” The former is themed after the popular Howie Mandel-led game show, while the latter is the Mark Wahlberg movie franchise.

White Hat swinging for the fences by launching in big markets

If White Hat’s intention is to grab a solid slice of the American market, they’re right on the mark. Their games are now available in three of the country’s biggest gaming markets:

This past month, the company announced it went live with Wynnbet and Fan Duel in Michigan, two considerable brands. The momentum is certainly there.

Becoming a flagship slots brand in those three states can generate considerable revenue for White Hat.

White Hat’s moves into the U.S. market haven’t gone unnoticed. Earlier this year the company was a finalist for Dealmaker of the Year at the American Gaming Awards 2022.
