When DraftKings Online Casino launched its Electric Poker casino game, it was a creative and new idea of how to better incorporate real money poker into the greater online casino platform.

Now, after a little more than six months, Electric Poker is doing well enough that DraftKings added its New Jersey site to the mix, rolling the game out there on March 11. Electric Poker had already been available in both Pennsylvania and Michigan since last year.

What makes Electric Poker unique is its integration with the rest of DraftKings Online Casino. Normally, online poker rooms are a separate app or site, even if they’re affiliated with a casino brand. DraftKings bucks that trend, which makes Electric Poker perhaps the most accessible option for casual poker players.

What is Electric Poker and how is it played?

Let’s get some of the finer details about DraftKings Online Casino’s Electric Poker. Here is how DraftKings has described it through its press release.

“In August, DraftKings Casino released its brand-new Electric Poker game which features real players in a fast-paced, three-handed, no-limit Texas Hold ’em poker tournament.”

In essence, this is a three-player Texas Hold‘em sit-and-go tournament that lasts for about six minutes, with the winner taking all the prize money. Instead of winning the pot like at a retail casino, the last player standing collects a randomized prize which is a multiple of their original bet.

After the first few minutes of the tournament, “Electric Mode” kicks in, forcing players all-in for every hand until a winner is decided. Once a game has ended, the player can immediately begin another. Anecdotally speaking, these digital Texas Hold ‘em tables fill up quick and it is not difficult to find other people to play against.

To play, find Electric Poker on DraftKings Online Casino in Pennsylvania, Michigan or New Jersey and choose how much you want to wager. There are four tiers of buy-in available to be chosen from. The lowest buy-in amount is $1 with the highest being $25, but there are also $5 and $10 options. The prize multiplier, which is randomized, could be anywhere from 2x to 10,000x the original bet which means the largest win anyone can walk away with is $250,000 and the smallest win would be $2.

So far, it seems Electric Poker is gaining steam and many online poker players are enjoying the format.

The response to DraftKings adding Electric Poker has been strong in MI and PA

For casual poker players wanting a change of pace from playing blackjack or slots, this game has been a huge hit. That is why DraftKings just expanded it to include New Jersey.

That takeaway was backed up by Jason March, the Vice President of iGaming Market and Operations at DraftKings, when he spoke about the success of Electric Poker is how it influenced DraftKings to bring it to New Jersey as well.

“Since launching Electric Poker in August, the reception from DraftKings Casino players has been very positive, leading to the expansion of the exclusive product to New Jersey. We’re excited to be able to offer this exceptional title to more customers, delivering them a one-of-a-kind, innovative game and a first-class online poker experience.”

While DraftKings has done a wonderful job of integrating this game into their larger online casino catalog instead of a standalone app, there are other similar games out there, just under a different name.

PokerStars call these type of rapid-fire tournaments ‘Spin and Go’ while BetMGM Online Casino dubbed it ‘Spins’. The World Series of Poker uses the name ‘Blast’. There are other names as well such as ‘jackpot sit and go’ and ‘lottery sit and go’. Generally speaking, these games have most of the same mechanics and rules. Electric Mode and the casino integration are the features that make DraftKings’ version stand out.
