Revenue from Detroit’s three casinos ticked up year-on-year but fell 1.7% compared to July, according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board’s (MGCB) monthly revenue report.
Of note in the MGCB’s latest data is that the year-on-year hot streak that Hollywood Casino at Greektown continued, marking three consecutive months in which the casino posted double-digit yearly revenue growth.
A look at August revenue numbers for Detroit casinos
Overall, Michigan’s three commercial casinos generated $104.9 million in total revenue in August. Slots and table games accounted for $104.6 million in revenue, while retail sports betting generated around $322,000 in revenue.
Both totals represented a decline in revenue compared to July. However, Detroit casino revenue was up 0.29% year-on-year.

Hollywood Casino at Greektown continues hot streak
The trend over the past three months has been all Hollywood. The casino, while typically generating the lowest amount of revenue, is the only casino of Detroit’s three properties to post:
- Four straight months of year-on-year revenue gain
- Double-digit growth in any month since May
- Year-on-year growth in any month since May
- Positive year-on-year growth every month this year
The city’s two other commercial casinos, MGM and MotorCity, haven’t been able to post positive year-on-year revenue growth since February.

Total 2023 Michigan casino revenue is up year-on-year
Despite the city’s two biggest revenue earners sputtering over the past six months, Hollywood’s strong performances have steadied the three casino’s joint revenue totals.
Slots and table games revenue is up 0.80% year-to-date, according to the MGCB’s August revenue report.
