Caesars Virginia is preparing to for opening day at its permanent resort in Danville and is already taking reservations for rooms starting December 13. That’s one day after the grand opening celebration, which is scheduled on December 12.
Caesars Virginia is a joint venture between Caesars Entertainment and its partners, EBCI Holdings and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
In 2020, the state legislators passed a bill that would bring a casino to the city. Then-Gov. Ralph Northam gave it his seal of approval.
The proposal required a referendum. Danville voters were strongly in favor of the project, with nearly 69% supporting the Caesars and EBCI casino project in a citywide referendum.
“We have worked diligently on creating a world-class resort that will offer all the luxurious and modern amenities expected from Caesars that will also serve as an economic driver for Danville and the surrounding region through employment and tourism. We’re so proud of Caesars Virginia and look forward to welcoming guests on Dec. 12.”

A third permanent casino in Virginia books
The opening of Caesars Virginia will supplant its temporary Danville casino, which opened in May 2023. The temporary facility has been a significant contributor to the local economy, contributing over $66 million in gaming taxes to the City of Danville and the Commonwealth. No doubt, the bigger, permanent facility will produce even more revenue for the commonwealth.
Caesars Virginia is set to become the third permanent casino to open its doors in the state, following in the footsteps of
- Rivers Casino Portsmouth, which pioneered the way in January 2023
- Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol, which just opened on November 14, 2024
With Caesars set to join the Virginia casino landscape, a fourth casino is already in the works in Norfolk. And in a major coup for Petersburg, voters just gave the green light to a casino resort from The Cordish Companies.
