With the launch of North Carolina online sports betting less than a week away, the Carolina Panthers announced FanDuel as official sports betting partner.
Carolina Panthers President Kristi Coleman said the team is “thrilled” to bring FanDuel into the fold. In a FanDuel news release, Coleman said:
“We are thrilled to welcome FanDuel as an Official Sports Betting Partner. As we look ahead to the 2024 season, we’re excited about the opportunities this partnership presents to deliver unique and engaging experiences to our fans while they are in North Carolina.”
FanDuel will celebrate the partnership with a live broadcast of FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams” at Bank of America Stadium (the Panthers home field) on March 6.
What the NC sports betting partnership means for FanDuel
North Carolina is the 22nd state where FanDuel will offer sports betting. The sportsbook’s partnership with the Panthers will help boost its profile in a state representing a massive revenue opportunity.
Like most franchise-sportsbook partnerships, the deal between FanDuel and the Panthers allows FanDuel to:
- Promote itself on the Panthers’ marketing channels
- Integrate its brand and offerings into Panthers’ social media accounts
- Feature digital signage at Bank of America Stadium
Mike Raffensberger, FanDuel’s COO, said he believes customer engagement will be the focus of the partnership.
“Bringing FanDuel to sports fans across North Carolina is an important moment for our business, and we are thrilled to be able to work with the Carolina Panthers,” Raffensperger said. “We look forward to supporting the team next season and to engaging the passionate sports fans across North Carolina with our product.”
FanDuel also has a partnership with the PGA Tour that allowed it to begin pre-registration in North Carolina on March 1.
What North Carolina sports betting could look like for FanDuel
The North Carolina online sports betting market will be a considerable one. The Tarheel State has the sixth-biggest population of any state with legal online sports betting: 10.6 million people.
As such, it’s likely to mature into a state that brings in at least $400 million in monthly sports betting handle.
And because of that staggering potential, the battle for betting will be fierce in North Carolina. FanDuel’s main competitor, DraftKings, partnered with NASCAR in January.
However, we won’t know how everything will shake down until this summer. Revenue is likely to be up and down for most sportsbooks because of their big push for promo bets to bring in new customers.
The handle will probably be more steady. And it’s nearly a certainty, based on other sports betting markets, that FanDuel and DraftKings will grab at least a 70% share.
With the launch of online sports betting in North Carolina, the state could look to expand its gaming options with North Carolina online casinos. Keep track of any online casino bills in North Carolina and other states with our online casino bill tracker.
