To coincide with September’s Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM) and promote responsible gambling, FanDuel has launched a new program, “Trusted Voices: Conversations About Betting.”

The program is part of the new partnership between FanDuel and a former NBA player and basketball coach Randy Livingston and his wife, sports agent Anita Smith.

Key takeaways

  • Trusted Voices program will educate and equip adults to talk to young people about gambling.
  • In the “Trusted Voices: Conversations About Betting” video series, Livingston shares his story to help families engage in proactive and informed conversations about problem gambling.
  • FanDuel created the program with the support of EPIC Global Solutions, a gambling harm consultancy firm.

Program raises awareness of family conversation importance

This new program and resource hub is designed to equip trusted adults, including parents, guardians and coaches, with tools and resources to talk to young people about gambling, associated risks, how to recognize warning signs and where to go for support.

Alison Kutler, VP, Responsible Gaming and Community Impact at FanDuel, said in the press release:

“Randy and Anita have an incredible story and a desire to help others, and we are excited to expand our advocacy program to raise awareness of the importance of having early and informed family conversations about gambling and the associated risks.

FanDuel aims to set and continuously raise the standard for what it means to be a responsible operator and we look forward to Randy and Anita strengthening our RG ambassador team moving forward.”

Educating adults on how to initiate gambling-related family conversations

In the “Trusted Voices: Conversations About Betting” video series, Livingston shares the story of his initial exposure to gambling. He calls out his “rock-bottom moment,” and his path to recovery with the support of his wife, Smith.

Livingston said:

“As legal sports betting continues to become more accessible, I knew I wanted to use my experience to help families engage in proactive and informed conversations about gambling.”

Smith added: “It is important to normalize conversations about gambling, and this program is intended to help families get comfortable with traditionally uncomfortable conversations.”

Livingston and Smith hope their family’s story will help others going through similar experiences. They have created educational resources for individuals to learn more about:

  • The risks of gambling
  • Warning signs to look out for
  • How to begin gambling-related family conversations.

The content emphasizes the importance of modeling responsibility for adults who choose to bet.

Livingston and Smith also break down proxy betting. And they emphasize the importance of not allowing bettors under 21 to access sports betting platforms.

FanDuel joins forces with EPIC to educate audience

FanDuel (OTCMKTS: PDYPY) created Trusted Voices program content in consultation with EPIC Global Solutions, which provides gambling harm prevention solutions.

In addition to partnering with Flutter’s FanDuel, EPIC has partnered with many leading US gambling companies, such as Bally’s, DraftKings, BetMGM, Kindred, and Entain.

Trusted Voices program details and resources are available at ConversationsAboutBetting.com, which will contain additional content in the coming months.

The Parent Toolkit is a downloadable guide for parents and adults. It features details on today’s gambling landscape and guidance on how to help young people.

In addition to launching “Trusted Voices: Conversations About Betting,” FanDuel is expanding its relationship with Kindbridge Behavioral Health. The program offers individuals who self-exclude from the FanDuel platform direct access to comprehensive mental health assessments and group support services nationwide.

The program started in New Jersey and Ohio. It is now accessible to individuals in all US online casino and sports betting markets where FanDuel operates.
