If you don’t like the current composition of Nevada casinos, just wait. The odds are that in short order, the seemingly endless shuffling of management for the various gaming properties could be more to your liking.
That shuffling has descended upon Lake Tahoe and now concerns the Hard Rock in Stateline, Nevada. A timeline for the casino’s rebrand isn’t firm. But it could be part of a stronger overall presence in Nevada for Golden Nugget.
Another transaction involving Nevada casinos
According to the Tahoe Daily Tribune, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in the namesake area will soon change ownership.
The publication reported on Friday that Fertitta Entertainment, the company attached to Tilman Fertitta, has agreed to purchase the property from Paragon Gaming. The transaction on the Stateline casino will close sometime in the next seven months to a year.
While the parties have not disclosed the agreed-upon price, Fertitta Entertainment plans to convert the property into a Golden Nugget casino. When that re-branding is complete, it will be the third Golden Nugget property in Nevada.
Casinos operate under that branding already in Laughlin and Las Vegas. Other Golden Nugget casinos welcome players in:
- Atlantic City
- Biloxi, Mississippi
- Lake Charles, Louisiana
A separate company under the Fertitta Entertainment umbrella also operates Golden Nugget online casino platforms in Michigan and New Jersey.
Late last year, Fertitta Entertainment also purchased the Wildwood Casino and Hotel in Colorado. At this time, the company has not announced any plans to rebrand that property. The Stateline acquisition is just part of the company’s ambitions in Nevada.
Other Fertitta interests in the Silver State
Besides the current Golden Nugget property in Las Vegas, Fertitta Entertainment owns a plot of land on The Strip at the intersection of Harmon Avenue. While the company has approval from Clark County to build a new Las Vegas casino on the plot, that process is not moving swiftly.
Whether the new property in Stateline will divert resources away from the Las Vegas project is uncertain. According to the Tribune, Fertitta himself suggests the company could work on both properties simultaneously as they see the properties occupying separate markets.
“We are thrilled to be welcoming the Lake Tahoe property to the Golden Nugget family,” Tilman Fertitta said. “This acquisition represents a significant opportunity for us to expand our footprint into the Northern Nevada marketplace.”
Many details about the renovation, including a timeline, are still unofficial. It could be over a year before the Golden Nugget officially welcomes guests to Lake Tahoe. In that time, who knows how many more changes to Nevada casinos could take place.
