Where are Americans most eager to become millionaires?
After all, everyone wants to be a millionaire, but do most people know how to make their first million?
The answer is “no,” but at least they can turn to Google to get ideas – and potentially even money – flowing.
In order to find out who has a “millionaire mindset,” we analyzed Google searches for “how to become a millionaire” across the country to determine which states and major metropolitan areas are the most eager to strike it rich.
Which cities want to become millionaires?
Rounding out our top five cities are Miami, Atlanta, Tampa, Las Vegas and Minneapolis.
With its 24/7 casinos, slot machines and table games, it’s probably no surprise that people are searching for ways to strike it rich in Sin City. July is the most popular month for “how to be a millionaire” searches in Las Vegas with an average of 68 searches per 100,000 people.
Elsewhere on the city rankings are two Floridian cities, Miami and Tampa. Both have the highest get-rich searches, per capita in the Sunshine State. With beautiful beaches and beautiful weather, Floridians are looking for ways on how to enjoy the finer things in life with dollars in their pockets.
On the bottom of our list are the cities with the lowest interest in striking it rich. Tulsa, Oklahoma; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Fort Worth, Texas; Columbus, Ohio, and Fresno, California rounded out our bottom five with the lowest searches for “how to become a millionaire” per capita.
Which states want to become millionaires?
According to our Google search analysis, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina and Virginia are the top five states with the highest search volume for “how to become a millionaire.”
Georgia’s capital city of Atlanta ranks No. 2 in city rankings, while Florida has three cities making the top 50 rankings. Our top state rankings were dominated by the East Coast, while much of the Midwest occupied the middle of our report.
But the state with the most cities appearing on our list is California. Eight cities in the Golden State make an appearance in our city rankings, but with such a large population, California itself ranks No. 24 nationwide.
At the bottom of our state-by-state rankings are more remote areas of the country. Vermont came in at No. 50 while South Dakota, Iowa, Wyoming, and New Hampshire followed closely behind.
Our study also revealed Americans’ millionaire mindset is on the rise. We found online searches for “how to become a millionaire” increased 22% during the pandemic compared to previous yearly averages. With more time at home and less time commuting and socializing, Americans started looking for ways to grow their bank accounts and achieve that millionaire status.
Our analysis found that January is the most popular time of year for Americans to search for “how to become a millionaire.” On average, there are 20,150 searches for “how to become a millionaire” during the month of January. The start of the year saw a high search volume, per capita, which is not surprising given many Americans evaluate their bank accounts, spending habits and goals when thinking of their New Year resolutions.
Using the Google Ads platform, we analyzed search volume for “how to become a millionaire” in all 50 states as well as the 50 most populous cities in America. Search volume was analyzed over the period of August 2020 to August 2021. Total search volume during this period was then calculated per capita and visualized per 100,000 for each state and major metro city.
